Hi

I'm looking to get ADSL because my current data plan is complete crap.

The problem for me is price, i want something that's around R300 to R400 uncapped and unshaped, either using landline or WiFi. Please help me with some good cheap deals.

Thanks

Telkom phone line rental: R166.50
Telkom 2Mbs line rental: R165.00

Leaves you with R68.50 for data, unless you wanted a R400 data account in which case you didn't specify line speed or usage.

Here's something:
Web Africa Home 2Mbs R349 + Telkom phone R166.50 which is R115 over your budget

I think you might be asking for a bit much. If you find a product matching those criteria let us know.

Sorry, at least 2mbps and uncapped ( if throttled then its okay aslong as its no too slow)

I have that old MTN 3 gigs for R300 and uncapped but im sure many of you know how ****ty the speed goes when the 3 gigs are done :/

I'm seeing Home uncapped at Web africa for 2Mbps at R200 a month ? is that correct.

Telkom Faster ADSL - 4Mbps
R299-00 DSL
R166-00 Line rental
R465
Bit over budget, but not too bad.

@PEZULU yeah that sounds okay but there's high installation fees im sure and other cost.

Your best bet is probably a telkom 2mb/s bundle deal an then try apply for the 25% discount which knocks about R85 off you total cost.

Okay i'm thinking of going for this deal : same what phezulu said

What will it cost?

Installation fees:
Line rental installation: R620.00
ADSL installation fee: R792.00 (self installation option available)

Monthly rental fees:
Line rental: R166.50
ADSL rental: R 299.00

I think i'll just have to pay the R620 installation fee ( which is stupid) and i'll have to connect adsl installation myself cause i cant afford to pay R792 also.

isn't the self install just connecting the modem and doing the "it works" test?

I still feel the R620 installation is ridiculous and the self installation is this :

Make sure you have ordered your ADSL service online, at your nearest Telkom Direct shop or by calling us on 10210.
We will then contact you to let you know that you can proceed with the self-installation.
You must complete the self-installation within seven days of our instruction to proceed.
Whether or not you complete the self-installation, we will begin to bill you for your ADSL service from seven days after the instruction to proceed is given.
In order to complete the self-installation:
Connect the micro-filter to the phone line.
Connect the side named "line" into the wall side (not the modem side).
Connect the modem power cable to a power source.
Connect the network cable to your personal computer.
Switch on your computer and the modem.
Run the start-up software from the disc provided with the modem.
You will be required to verify your ADSL connection. The verification process is built into the modem’s start-up software, but if you run into a glitch, you can go to Verify ADSL.
Enter your telephone and order number in the fields provided and click "verify".
You will be taken through a verification process and should be able to access the Internet within 30 minutes.

Telkom might ask for a deposit also don't forget the first invoice "double whammy".

Your first month is billed in arrears together with the next month in advance, it'll also include any installation fees.

My friend has this deal from them that offers Uncapped WiFi at R500 includes line rental cost and also no installation fee ( not sure what speed) but somehow its not on their website :/. i don't mind paying R500

Neo the deal i said i was thinking about was alot cheaper and i would get 4mbps. I just need to sort out the installation cost and see if they dont ask for advance etc like Mick said :/

4Mbps uncapped through Telkom on the Simple deal costs R790/month, including unlimited weekends and evenings Telkom to Telkom landline calls (i.e. includes their 'Weekends & Evenings' bolt-on calling package). Weirdly enough although you get the wifi router for free, you'll need to buy a landline phone for yourself.

Installation is also free, the technician came up and set me up less than a week after I'd placed my order :) As mentioned above with the 2Mbps option (which I was initially on before upgrading), there's also no contract, but you do need to provide a 30 day notice before cancelling (I did this a month ago - found that Telkom's 4Mbps service was buffering 80% of the time).

If you can live with capped, go for the 20GB 4Mbps Simple deal ... only R599, and your line performance should be a bit better because you're not in the uncapped pool.

NB: It is *extremely* important to your future happiness that you are with the technician and test that your line is working before he leaves. Friends of mine have spent ages fighting with Telkom after that initial installation didn't go as expected.
