Sorry if this has been asked before I did search the forum but could not get the answer I'm looking for,
I'm sick of mtn and their 3g nonsens so thinking of going the adsl way and is looking at the 384k uncapped shaped package from mweb, the thing is I don't do torrents but am a lot on youtube and downloading youtube clips and mp3s ext. How is the speed in comparison with 3g on the 384k and will I be able to download without trouble. Thanks

you will be able to download vids and mps3 etc.

384 is tad slow for streaming even 512k is, for streaming you need 4mb if you want to watch without buffering.

speeds should be 30kbs+ on mps3 and vids.

Agree with above. 4mb is ideal for youtube, but even with 384kb browsing will probably be a lot better than 3G, and you can load 240p videos with only a bit of buffering, woohoo.

How much data do/will you use per month though? If you're on 3G now you can't be using more than a few gigs, in which case you might not even need uncapped right from the start.

Thanks for the reply, 4mb is a to high for my budget so 384 would be right, think I will get the 512k thanks

Using 2gig on 3g but not enough, if the browsing is also faster then its worth it can get used to slower dl speeds

Another question how will other devices say like an ipod over wifi to my network work will 384 work fine sorry for the noob questions I just want to make sure before I get into it

You could also consider getting a 4mb line with just say 5-10Gb cap. It will be a far better experience on Youtube (loading multiple clips at once without buffering) and for general downloading. Capped accounts also perform better than uncapped, although uncapped is almost on par for youtube and non-P2P downloads.

But once you get used to it you'll probably just want uncapped anyway.

Hi Andre,

I've sent you a PM :)

Haha well seeing as TRLTech are "poaching" customers, you might also want to know that's about the only thing they do on MyADSL whereas MWeb Ops are known to be around on sunday afternoons and at 1am to sort things out for clients. Crazy committed those guys, I wonder if it's actually part of their job description or they just do it because they can.

TRLTech give a good service, not those mweb bunch who always try to sugar coat their services. they are contradicting themselves as they say that they are able to cope with their uncapped products, yet they shape you to death. whats the use of having a V8 car, but you are only allowed to drive 60km all day long as long as you want. whats the thrill in that. i would rather enjoy my cruise and feel the adrenalin when i want to.

same thing depends on user and there needs :)

to get best of both worlds you need go pay the extra bucks :)

i think you'll find mweb hard to beat if your only looking at amount of gigs you'll be able to transfer...
I do 300-350Gb a month without trying...Done 3TB in the past 12 months...
on 384 i've seen some do 80GB plus.

obviously you won't be downloading torrents....thats noobish :)

[-]The OP wants a package from MWEB as is stated in the thread topic. It looks a little desperate and disingenuous for other ISPs to barge into the thread with their offerings and advertising their technical support. Not sure it was necessary to post in the thread about sending the OP a PM either. I can just imagine the maniacal outcry if an MWEB rep. did the same thing in a thread where someone wanted a package from some other ISP.[/-]

Edit: Fair enough :) Competition is good of course. I'll get down off my high horse :)
