Need help with COD4 cvar rate.

Hi. I keep getting kicked on SGS by punkbuster, with a message saying cvar rate must be under 25000. I type /rate 25000 in the console and I still get kicked. Can someone tell me how to fix this please ?

Well you could try change the setting in your profiles\{user name}\config_mp.cfg file.
Change seta rate "25000" to seta rate "15000"

The problem is that your rate is to high (25000) as SGS have set the server rates to 15000.

Join a game and before joining or choosing sides open your console (by using the ~ key) and type

\rate 15000

and enter. No more pb kicks.

And remember if you play on a clan server running promod it ups your rate to 25000 automatically so when you join a normal pub server you will need to change it to 15000 again.

What is cvar rate and why does it effect online play?

IIRC it's got something to do with the amount of data (bits/bytes) your machine can receive per second. (Obviously this would also be affected by your line speed). With a fast line, you could get the full 25000 while a mate with a slower line might only get 5000. I guess this gets set by server admin to counteract any advantage you might gain by this, and level the playing field somewhat. (Seem to recall it was 8000 when I first started CoD4 and promod upped it to 15000.)
