[Nelspruit] REALLY bad Data access

I'm gonna assume that there is a perfectly good and reasonable explanation as to why this is still not being addressed...

No feedback.
No calls of any sort from any technicians of any kind.

Nothing.

Hi

You will be contacted by Henry as Andrew who was suppose to come out has been upgrading the towers in the area at night.

Pretty cr@ppy again today, no disconnects, but Rx = 0...

Been like that this whole week so far for me.
Disconnects every now and then too. Signal of any kind just goes on vacation and modem has no other choice than disconnect.

Getting a peak d/l speed of 133kbps. Had to search and eventually found a phone cable, now going to use my 56kbps modem and a Telkom line

I still don't understand your issues. I live on the Kaapsehoop road and get full speed 3G.

I stay in the cape(lucky me) and have no problems :D you the only one complaining about signal disconnections e.t.c in the area and no one else

don't you think you could be the problem ? wheunis

Plain and simple... no.

So what makes you so sure you not the problem ?

And why don't they send out field engineers to you ?

Lucky you.

Furthermore, I work near the Nelspruit CBD and have full speed 3G as well. I know, because I set it up for the other employees who need access via 3G.

I have friends living out about 25km on the N4 and they have full speed access as well.

So yeah, lucky us :p

Bother to read further and with actual interest and you will find i could give half a sh** about speed.
Which, fyi, is 90% of the time also "full" as you so aptly explain in technical terms.
If you're going to be an jerk, don't do it on another another's time and discomfort.

a) Maybe i know i'm not the problem due to the confirmation of an actual problem in this area from 3 technicians so far?

b) Maybe, as partially noted in (a), they already have sent 3, and none of them were competent enough to finish what they started?

Open the TCP/IP V4 settings of your 3G connection and enter these DNS entries as Primary and Secondary:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Attempt to connect and see if the issues are resolved ;)

Morning Wheunis

I got off the phone with Henry now, according to him we have given you a Yagi antennae free which you have not installed as yet and you can’t do so as your landlord does not want you to drill any holes into the wall. Furthermore the reason for the Yagi was because you stay in a dip and this would assist in the RX problem you are experiencing.

He also advised that he was experiencing the same problem with regards to RX when he was at your place and the Yagi should solve this problem. Also in your 1st post you were experimenting with the Yagi what type of experimenting were you doing? Henry says they can only come out to you again once the antennae has been installed .

I've also got a crappy signal, where do I collect my free yagi (no need to deliver, I'll pick it up)?

:-D

Did Henry also mention that the technician who dropped the antenna off here didn't even give me a friggin hint as to what direction the towers are?

Did Henry also mention that same technician was told beforehand that i cannot drill any holes for mountings and that he was well aware of this?

Did Henry also mention that the cable on the antenna is barely 4 meters long an wont even make it, from any mounting point, anywhere near a spot i might be able to drill even if i were allowed?

To answer your question, i did testing by putting the antenna up onto an old 2m revolving fan-stand, in an attempt to see where signal strength is the strongest/best and found no significant difference in any direction.

As far as mounting the antenna goes... the only place i can mount it with the short cable, is right near the window by the carport. Henry says not high enough.

The only place high enough, as i pointed out to Henry, is up where the TV antenna is mounted... the cable wont it even make it a quarter of the way to any entry point.

As Henry explained to me, the problem might be related to Cell Breathing. My biggest problem with this diagnosis...
How does it explain that since that morning, the problem hasn't occurred even once yet? How is it that suddenly, that Andrew is sent out to upgrade a series of towers; While at the same time a software issue on Vodacom's side is addressed; And magically for 2 straight days after all this, not a single issue arises?

While I am well aware of the "dip" my area is in, and the possible signal problems that come along with such, I very highly doubt that Cell Breathing magically explains all this.
How/Why then, does MTN have none of these issues in the same exact area?

I will continue to try my best, as I promised to Henry to get the antenna mounted, even though he wasn't helpful in pointing out a usable spot for same antenna (see 2 mentions of location further up in post).

EDIT: Another thing to mention. My modem hasn't connected to the usual tower since later that night Henry was here. It is now continually connecting to the CellID's 9221 and 9226. With that in hand... how is it i have LESS problems with towers further away from me than the one giving me the problems, if this is indeed a problem with signal quality and/or strength?

Hi Wheunis

I suggest that you get the antennae installed , and if you can purchase extra long cable from your local supplier in town called Contact Communication .

Try not to go more than 7 meters otherwise you will loose a few DB`s ,as per Henry he advised that he did check the GPS coordinates and showed you the exact place to which to point the antennae.

I used google earth and a compass initially but when i got onto the roof i could see the tower from there
