NeoConnect Ethernet device planned

I too feel it's a bit snarky describing us as "high-end users". But if you look at the country as a whole, it's absolutely right.

And I'm pleased with the customer attitude and responsive of Neotel so far. But that's no guarantee of value for money and the right technical specs.

i wonder what happen to the WiMax will be used for power users.. :-/ makes me wonder how expensive an option theirs will be that they are compelled to invest in creating one. Mind ye, if its a fax, phone device all in one, it still is kinda useless to do so because the power user won't want a all in one device but something to swop a network element in their existing network.

So have your feelings changed concerning the 2 year contract?

Please get it right... you can cancel your contract, however you are liable for the cost of the device. You pay R80 per month, which you can pay off in full if you wish... Over the two years you pay R1920 for the device, which is comparable to other modems, like IBursts web phone, HSDPA modems etc...

My feelings...feel right

My distaste is directed towards the fact that there is a 2 year contract in place.
I dislike contracts and I've wasted far too many keystrokes already down that road...

Ja, well it seems to me Neotel are at least trying to smooth the initial outlay of getting started up with them, it doesn't seem like their main goal is locking people in... yet.

I concur that they're trying, but they could have tried more - but thats on the hardware sign of things...

As for the contract, there is the option to cancel, but you still have to pay for a device which you will not use. I don't like that.
And that seems like a bit of a lock in to me...

if they added a Ethernet device the battery life of their current device would have dropped.

Hopefully they'll launch a more attractive portable handset
Why don't they import a CDMA enabled cellphone...they do exist. It makes so much sense cos then you would have mobile internet as well as a mobile "landline" and its all cheaper than any cell operator. Of course it would only work in the region the number is registered in, but its ideal for ordinary day to day use.

Oh that question has been asked many, many (think Police Academy) times ;)
No idea why not...

What a bunch of whiners. Neotel is listening to its customers and you lot just want to cry over nothing. If you don't like it then don't give them your business FFS. Telkom is your other option.

Maybe they are waiting till there are more areas covered I suppose. Coverage right now is way too small for that idea to be viable. Also I suppose once coverage improves, VANS may start offering handsets capable of working on the neotel network?

Glad to hear. Minute I'm coverd, I'll drop my 4mb line and go with them.

Because they are a landline and not a cellphone operator.

ICASA ruled against MTN, VC & Cell C iro 24 month contracts and they must provide 6, 12 & 18 month contracts to clients. Why is Neotel not included?

As far as I can recall, the regulation is only for mobile operators.
