NeoConnect Ethernet device planned

"Developing"? Why not just re-brand something already on the market? It will cost less, and you get a proven product. Why use batteries at all? I don't mind plugging it into power.

The second they release something like this, I am so in....

Ethernet is not an "when sometime" thing, it is a "when in the next five minutes" thing. This has already cost them money by not doing it in the beginning.

When Neotel eventually covers my area, and eventually brings us an ethernet enabled device, I will make the switch.

I hope existing customers will be able to swop USB units for the ethernet units without major hassle (or price). Can you just plug an ethernet device into a switch/router and there you go, or is there major configuration required?

You just plug it into your switch and away you go (if it supports things like DHCP etc)

Thanks for the reply. That would definitely make Neotel more attractive to those who already have ADSL routers and want the same internet sharing functionality when using neotel.

Well this is a first in SA - Neotel actually listens to their clients and prospective clients... I cannot imagine the days Telkom starts doing that! When it comes to Telkom, they dictate and we do...just like sheep...

Don't get too excited. Remember, at this stage, Neotel needs us more than we need them. I just hope they don't become arrogant as their market share grows.

Well now.. seems that they really want my business after all...

Hopefully the ethernet device will be available when I'm covered. At the moment I'm 250m out of range :(

I think it has a battery because they want to focus on it being able to be moved around and used 'everywhere'.

Hopefully they'll launch a more attractive portable handset that you'd want to be seen with everywhere. ;)
I'm not talking cellphone - just poratble handset with a cradle and the ethernet to go along with it.
And Skype compatibility wouldn't hurt ;) :)
