NeoConnect Lite prices emerge

Its NeoConnect Lite Unlimited offering - providing consumers with unlimited data usage at speeds of up to 156 Kbps, 1000 free on-net voice minutes, 50 free on-net SMSs and the device purchase – is priced at R 299.00 per month.

Wishful thinking from the author? :D It's R 469.00 :(

So the unlimited has an effective cap of less than 48.6GB given that 156kbps is the peak speed.

156 kbps is far too slow.

I can get 2GIG from Vodacom for R90 more, and I get seriously fast speeds.

I got constant 1.280 mbps (160 KB/s) last night using HSDPA 1.8.

It's still a better offering than anything anyone else is giving atm. It's faster than dialup but yeah the speed is an issue.

Still, I'd rather have an "effective cap" of +- 50 GB than a real had one of 3 for more than the NeoTel price.

wth with the slow speeds on the unlimited plan. that's definetly a bad move. If they upped the speed to higher than 250kb/s they could at least have used the term "broadband" which they are unable to now since Icasa ruled that broadband is faster than 250kb/s.

Seriously 156kb/s makes me think this is both the cheapest and slowest internet package that you could get nowadays. Makes me sommer think of ISDN.

This is my last hope:

Neotel said that they will further introduce more NeoConnect Prime packages – both above and below 10 GB of monthly usage – at the formal announcement in May

My other option will be to go the Telkom route or MTN must reduce the cost of their Data Bundles.

Wasn't CDMA going to be High Speed Internet??

Personally, I would take the 2gig for R299, only if the speed was at least 800 kbps. I cannot work on 156 kbps.

The 2gb package though does seem to be a good shot across the bow of the incumbents with their R249pm for a gig packages. This is twice the amount though at the cost of mobility.

Sadly we need more innovatoin at the other end of the market for me to be interested to switch to neotel. Give me at least a 1mb/s unlimited plan for under R500 or max R700. I really dont care for the useless minutes and sms's.......not like theres anyone to phone.

neotel will learn that customers don't like 24 month contracts on a new service that may fail at anytime because it's wireless

they FOR SURE would need a month to month option otherwise people will be really hesitant *cough sentech cough*

Does NeeTel actually have a clue on how to pull customers? The way they're going nobody is gonna bother .... I know I won't

Agreed

Who is the joker that keep coming up with these 2gb packages?

Agreed x2

Just used 2GB's on my 64k line... it's only the 5th day of the month... :(
AAAAAARG!? why kbps and not KBs? does kbps make it look faster

if the 48 gigs is the norm. Then a gig will cost roughly R9.80.

Eish, at that price I guess im gonna have to get used to waiting for youtube videos to load again. ;-)

... try to see it from NeoTel's perspective.

It's impossible to currently offer 1-4MB/Unlimited/R500 pm because of SAT3 constraints IIRC. So this is something they can offer and something to get out there and increase presence.

People really need to stop saying stuff like "I'll only accept Unlimited bandwidth on a 4mb line for R200 pm including 1000 free calls". It's not financially viable and it's not going to happen unless magic fairies suddenly start transporting data.

I agree that the speed isn't optimal but it's faster than dial up and cheaper than I would pay for a 384k/Unlimited plan so I don't really mind.

Something they really do need to address is the 24 month contract period as that will drive a lot of people away.
