Neotel charges for data delivery overhead

Data charging overheads...

FYI!

Every telco, by regulation can only bill an event if they have a fully qualified record for that event. It is a consumers right to query this; hence you may ask for an item by item count of this. If this cannot be provided to you, you have every right to sue the telco; but at that point most telco's will not bother and reverse the charge.

Overheads in data records come from mobility management mainly; and this is a matter of configuration on the network as to the billing source; if you a telco chooses to bill data from a legacy switch(fixed line) ,SGSN(GSM), PDSN(CDMA); these records will definitely have overheads.

If the billing source is a firewall, AAA accounting records, gateway router logs these donot have overheads.

It is very unlikely that a Telco will chance this...

Thanks Loki2008, can you give an example of how this is setup: e.g. PDSN (CDMA).

I just personally would like to understand where the overhead is originated, and how it could possible amount to 6GB overhead?

6GB overhead is quite ridiculous, it seems far more likely some neo tel employees are having fun with your internets.

Got a Reply from Neotel after supplying the data from my Netlimiter and guess what Neotel use Netlimter to calculate your usage!

Good Day Mr. *****

We have made some headway with your query as we have also been using this Net limiter tool.

We will be in a position to respond to you formally before the close of the business week.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

At least there is some progression. The response is imminent! ;)

I dunno, looks remarkably similar to the "I will refer your complaint to the relevant department" response. I think they have realised the public are getting wise to that one so they've modified it a little.

Reply!

Good Morning ******

I was out of the office I am back today, please give me till this afternoon, I will send you feedback apologies for the delay.

So I got a call now saying bottem line is that they've tested Netlimiter and it doesn't record as much Data as they record. They are sending there findings to me now and therefor I can look at it but bottem line is I must pay for the data out of bundle.

Thanks for the update, I am in the same boat.
I will probably get the same responce from them, thats if they ever call me back.
Just seems strange that Netlimiter worked fine with my ADSL and 3G, the stats were always in line.
Guess that just leaves 2 options, upgrade to unlimited or cancel.

Yeah I upgraded to Unlimted after the first month. Why pay almost R1000 for 7 gigs over bundle including my 10gig bundle when I can pay R1000 for 55gig and counting.

I'm still going to fight this payment I owe them, we'll see what they say.
