Neotel charges for data delivery overhead

In all honesty, I can not see the Rep commenting on this. Imagine the ramifications of committing publically to this . Neotel will have to admit that there is something wrong with their bandwidth monitor and refund everyone that has overpaid up to date – this ain’t gonna happen. I am not a lawyer, so if there are any lawyers around, please correct me if I am wrong, but Neotel have no leg to stand on here. The bottom line, Neotel have to "prove" that the customer used more than the allocated bandwidth. Neotel also needs to provide the customer with "reasonable" means to monitor their bandwidth usage - which is currently not the case. My suggestion - don't pay, put it in writing and let us know what happens…

Agreed. That is why we need people with Neotel accounts on the capped packages to keep us informed on this topic!

I'm not a Neotel customer, but have used DUmeter for 4 years on Sentech, and Sentech's bandwidth usage figures matched up almost exactly with my DUmeter figures. Same story currently with my ADSL and my different ISPs. Everything matches up 99%. DUmeter is accurate. Obviously Neotel are not.

Lucky You...

Well, to those of you who actually got a bandwidth report - im sure u must be happy.

I have been asking for mine since October when i was billed for additional 5GB and am still waiting. I have told them i am not paying for the 5GB till i can see proof.

Neotel's callcenter is THE MOST useless, inadequate and technically challenged collection ever on the planet.

The only way I get anywhere these days is to put a story on HelloPeter and wait for someone to call me. I've left about 10 messages with helpdesk staff to sort out problems for me and no one ever calls back.

The technology Neotel is using is good, their pricing is good. Their service is the worst I have ever come accross. Pity really.

Correct me if im wrong, but if you want account info - the callcenter cant help you. If you want bandwidth info, the call center cannot help. If you want to ask a technical questions, the callcenter cannot help.

All I ever get is "try again later" or "we'll get someone to call you".

Why not just record that and play it back and fire all the callcenter staff and pass the savings on to us? Im all for that :)

Thank you to everybody that contributed to this thread.

This morning i was supposed to submit all my forms and sign up with Neotel.
I tore them all up because this problem with the billing is a deal breaker for me and i cannot afford to be overcharged and pay extra.
I was also told that i had to do a debit order and internet transfer wasn't acceptable to Neotel.
I feel its sad as i have been waiting for Neotel for months now.
Im gonna stay with my 2gig V3g prepaid option and wait for Neoflex and the Seacom cable to hit our shores.
2009 is the year for change, and i cannot be bogged down with a 24 month contract.

we cant be paying for overheads. any additional protocol data for this connection is between the device and the tower. To consolidate your usage the bandwidth monitor would be on the gateways at Neotel/ISP, not at the base station. But the time your request gets to the gateways there's no comms or protocol data.

The most common problem must be that they are not measuring correctly. I dont understand why though, since all they need do is track packet usage from your mac address. its not rocket science.

Currently Neoconnect Prime 10GB is not working for me cause i dont know how much bandwidth i've used. So I'm just going to upgrade to Unlimited and not worry about it for now.

PS - does DUMeter measure incoming port connections too?

I was also told that i had to do a debit order and internet transfer wasn't acceptable to Neotel.

This is very strange. I am on a monthly contract and I make a monthly transfer. Some lady phoned me and asked me if I would like to change to a debit order and I "politely" told her NO!

Also, I went to their terms and conditions (http://www.neotel.co.za/neotel/view/neotel/en/page49599) and there is no reference to debit order only payments. What is however interesting, is the following:

par 3 "Neotel will use commercially reasonable efforts to provide the Services that Customer may order "

Now, in the same breath, they are saying the following:

par 20 "If Customer has a bona fide, good faith dispute with any of the amounts on an invoice, Customer must pay, in accordance with the foregoing terms, all amounts not in dispute and provide Neotel with a written request for a billing adjustment, together with all supporting documentation (in the form requested by
Neotel), within sixty (60) days after Customer’s receipt of the applicable invoice. "

In my opinion, the fat cats at Neotel are an unethical money stealing bunch of thieves who have nobody's best interest at heart except their own...

I too pay by EFT and never an issue from them about this.

But I must say there was an issue with their billing system that I first wanted to sit on it before I brought it to their attention.

I noticed that if I payed in more that the invoice amount, the balance did not reflect on my next invoice. This was for 2 statements and I saw on my most recent November 2008 (December not yet issued) that the balance was correctly allocated.

For me this was not a biggy as the issue was resolved - its taken Autopage 8 years to get my account correct and its ironic that my last account (ever) will arrive in the next few days.

R1000.00 a month for a Internet connection is a bit extreme for most of us out here. If the data monitoring was correct, I would not have a problem moving over... but this is definitely a deal breaker for me.

I too would refuse a debit order, that would be another deal breaker. I was burnt once by debit order..... never again.

Me too,and thats exactly why i refuse.Trying to stop a debit order is such a pain in the *SS.
Wonder exactly when the price of data bundles will drop?

Just received my Neotel Statement.

I'm on Uncapped now and my statement says I've used 1313 MB. aka 1.3gig.

Dont know if their systems just cant read but I did around 80 gigs that month.

maybe they're calculating it at 131 gig and just dont have enough digits to show it?

Congrats that you finally on Uncapped.

Must be an error or glitch on their site.

Does your Uncapped Invoice mention anything like OUT OF bundle charge per meg or something to that sort.

Only for additional phone calls you make and sending out sms.

Thanks. I know theres threads about speeds on Mybb for neotel, any1 have a link? I currently pay R550 for uncapped, but its a 256 to 512 line, so im thinking of moving. 120gigs a month sounds like beta value than my maybe 30gigs:)
