I don't expect NeeTel to offer free calls to other networks - there are interconnect fees, I would rather NeeTel didn't use the word "free" with a considerable ZAR600/month price tag, and I would rather be offered something that costs ZAR250 all inclusive without the frills that I'm not interested in and more importantly not prepared to pay for.

I think that is the biggest issue with the offering. It seems they have tried to throw everything into one basket including a lot of useless crap that no one really wants/ needs, in order to justify the R600 premium, which it does not.

This is unfortunately what a lot of South African companies seem to do. It's like they're trying to justify ripping you off by adding stuff that most people don't need or want.

Mweb comes to mind as a good example.

Isn't "consumer" another word for leech or parasite? :D

In the sense that NeeTel would be a consumer of ZAR600 from each of its customers' hard-earned cash every month?

That, and that "clients" automatically are labeled "consumers" when they use products these days, it's a disgusting word

SEEERRRRIIIIAAAASSS!!!

Neotel

As mentioned in my previous post I think this is an important milestone and that we must celebrate it. I do not know about the technicalities but do understand some general business principles.

I do however believe that it would be unfair to expect people to commit them to 24 months for a new telecom company. SA's are so fed up with these companies and do not trust them. This 24month contract was from someones telephonic enquiry - so maybe it was just wrong information. That does not make sense.

The biggest limit on a much lower price is the capacity of the SAT3 cable. Now everyone says but they have direct access to it, but the problem is that the capacity on the line is not nearly enough to address our actual needs and expectation. If they launch a no-cap policy for R599 then the cable would not be able to handle all the data. This will f.up the speed of everyone and then we will be de moer in again because they can not live up their speed promise.

I do hope that people would understand this and the business rationale behind these decissions.

It could actually be very very helpfull for us and Neotel that they have official representation here as quickly as possible. :(Most early adopters would be members here. Just imagine the information/suggestion/ideas that would be generated here.

but again I end with: Enjoy this milestone people! Celebrate it!:D

@ic - I agree with you regarding "what consumers want." They should have an option available to every type of consumer.

I want to see their T&C for a contract though... Might be surprisingly pleasant... Or down right intestinal flu-ish.

24 month contracts are madness. It's certainly pretty disappointing that they decided to do this.

I find it strange that no one has given feedback yet. Surely they must have signed up a few consumers.

Yeah, I read somewhere - I think it was in this thread - that the phone basically belongs to Neotel? I don't think that's been done with a telecoms company since... before BT was "liberated." But... would be nice if they gives us free upgrades of the hardware each time... Although, that's starting to sound a bit too cellphone-ish to me.

I get this. A number of American podcasts I listen to have guys over there complaining that ISPs are starting to cap them. They also moan about speeds etc. I know that we can't have uncapped because then 95% of users would use a "reasonable" amount of data and then you would get the guys pulling terabytes of data of pirated material and spoiling it for everyone.

I realise I will have to wait for the SEACOM cable to see major price cuts. I accept this. I was not expecting uncapped for R50 or anything. I do have a major problem with a R600 a month 24 month contract for 10 gigs of usage! Gees. Come on Neotel. Give the "average" South African a plan that we can use. R300 month to month contract for 5 gigs. No useless Neotel min or SMS messages thrown in the data contract and for goodness sake let me buy my own equipment with Ethernet connections! Gees.

If the 10gb were 30gb we would more than likely be singing a very different song on this thread. Is it really so costly to give us a proper cap at an affordable rate? I could live with 30gb. Now that this company has set a bar with this first offering, I can't see it happening.
