If someone calls you a "free loader" then you should be very offended, you should be proud to be a consumer :p :D.

Ahh, logic ;) Thanks for pointing that out, I appreciate it ;) from now on I will get to used to being a consumer ;) (no sarcasm intended) ;)

Well I guess the big question for me is whether Telkom will drop prices of some of their bundles. Do they even need to respond to this package?

Well if Neotel are going to operate 24 month contracts then the price war with Telkom will be very slow indeed. We'll have to wait for Vodacom or one of the other players to bring out decent internet offerings.

Bear in mind though this still isn't their ADSL or Wimax offering....
but for 10 gigs R 600 is pretty disappointing for a company that supposed to shake the market.

But if we have waited so long for only limited areas of Pretoria and Joburg to get this weird wireless offering I think that it is going to take quite a lot of 100 day periods for the other offerings to come into play. My money is on Vodacom becoming Telkom's true competitor. They have the vision, money and ability to execute to do it...

:p we have to start thinking "will this ever happen in my lifetime", forget next year, 2010, 2020 think more alomg 2040 or 2060 :D

It's a pitty they aren't advertising yet... If we apply the SAME standards to Neotel as to other WISPs *cough*, Telkom, IBurts, Vodacom and other ISPs in SA, I could smell ASA complaints being registered already.

This offer is severely premature, and how more posts I read on this topic about the offer, how more mad I get at Neotel. It seems the only thing they got right was ensuring that they start off on a bad foot.

WTF (I ask with TEARS IN MY EYES) must I do with a device that can't be used anywhere else EXCEPT with NeoTel's network... There's your contract Neotel, stop with this bull***** 24 month crap!

And only one obstacle: the matter of Telkom owning 50% of them...

:D
Why pick the most expensive of cell phone operators and the original operator (the primary reason we pay such high cell phone prices - they have the muscle to wage a price war but refrain)? Vodacom... pah

Correction, they have your money. It would be a sad day indeed when the biggest, nastiest player in the market that has consistently milked everyone (especially prepaid users) for years to keep their shareholders rich (including one particular one) becomes "competition". Do we really want a market like that? I'd take Neotel over that any day...

Who says Neotel will be any different? They might become even worse than Vodacom and for years to come many people will only be able to get service from Telkom or one of the cellphone companies because Neotel doesn't have coverage in their areas...

A Query

Hi there!

Right im a newbie to this forum, so be gentle :P

Anyhoo, i have a query regarding this Neotel offering.

Currently i have a 384 ADSL line, and 5gb from Webafrica, my expenses are as follows:

R110 phoneline rental
R450 384 line + 5gb cap

So my total is around R550 a month.
The service through Webafrica is great, and i have had zero problems on any level.

Most of my bandwidth goes into Xbox live gaming (local), so i want to know if my gaming experience would be better on the Neotel option? Currently, my lag is non-existant, the only time i get slowdowns is in 16 player COD4 games.

Unfortunately i don't quite understand latency etc, so im a bit confused atm :\

Any advise welcomed :)

In principle, wireless is not a viable online gaming option because of packet loss which is environmental and out of anybody's control and latency. If it's gaming you want, then stick with ADSL.

How can this be our SNO when what they're offering us is another wireless internet option?
