Here is some good news for a Friday.

Gave Neotel a call this morning and spoke to a very friendly & helpful chap.

Their consumer product is called “Neo Connect Prime” and they will be providing a “Converged Service”. The handset will have SMS & Caller Line Identification etc. You will be able to use the device in your own geographical(021 or 011 or 012) area.
Geographical Number Portability is available, so you can keep your Telkom number

The recurring rental will be: R496 per month
+ R1 for the device
+ R1 for internet
+ R1 for email
Total Rental: R499 per month billed in arrears. This is for unlimited downloads. No Cap!!!

Call charges per min: 75c to Telkom
75c to mobile numbers
171c to international numbers
All calls are billed per second.

The device is Plug & Play and will be delivered in 48 hours of the order being placed.

(Posted in Off Topic as well. If Mods can merge this in a new Neotel Section please :D)

That is totally awesome...but then what is the speed? I hope it's not dial-up?

One thing thats jumping around in my mind is:

They're very tight lipped about this in the press, but yet giving the info over the phone.
I wonder if some call center agents are gonna get fired? :p :D
Nah I doubt it - I think we're finally cracking them as they must be taking a barrage of calls at the moment.

AntiThesis also backed this claim up - so initially its looking good people ;)

I mean we're still outside international pricing and infrastructure, but its a positive sign of things to come.

Just think about when Seacom goes live!

This is one of the few times in recent months that I've gotten excited by Neotel's imminent arrival.
Don't let me down Ajay and Angus... don't let me down :o

we need a map depicting areas where there is coverage.

ARGH!!! Stop with the teasing! I want to dig my claws into Neotel soooooo badly!

Giiiive it to meeeeeee......

Must have proper internet... Must have Neotel.... AAAARRGH!!!!

The ONLY negative I can see is the lack of RJ45. How is this connection meant to be shared (easily, and seamlessly) :o

I must say Friday is starting to look up :)

Although R499 is still out of my league and services will initially be offered in certain areas only this may just be the kick in the arse Telkom needs to drop their prices. I live in hope anyways :)

I heard some time ago that the pricing would be available one week before launch & someone did confirm they would be launching in JHB & PTA on 26 April 2008.

Two questions:

When?

And is this a contract?

There is no contract. I was wondering if I should get rid of my telkom line completely or convert it to prepaid, then you pay R120 per year.

I'm contemplating that, because although my alarm has radio comms, it cannot tell the command centre what is wrong, just that something IS wrong!

Friday sure is looking up! And a kick like this to Telscums rear end is most welcoming!

I bet old Reuben and the board are starting to feel the pinch right now :D

Well if there really is no contract then I'll start proceedings to distance myself from Telscum and Cybermart once they've launched up North! :D

The callout to convert my system to radio comms is R336 per hour. I dont feel like spending that right now.

Technology = CDMA same as Vodacom , MTN

A bit worrying due to the unstable 3G connection we have now on MTN,
