I agree on this, WTF is going on? Why does Neotel keep changing their tariff? In the first press release, the NeoConnect package was offered for R499.99, now it's R100 more, erm....
 
they must better telkom prepaid. That is where the money will be. No line rental. They can make at least R100 per household on this. R120 they can give you entry internet 1 or 2 gigs.

My major concerns with Neotel's launch product offering:
* Can't make a phone call AND be online at the same time (reminds me of my dialup days 10 years ago)
* USB only, does not support ethernet! What were they thinking (Most people have a LAN ethernet router setup for sharing)
* 24 month contract

Will *only* Neotel have access to the new Seacom undersea cable? I know they have the initial agreement as landing station but will others be allowed to buy bandwidth on that cable? I hope so, because of the above issues are not resolved, I can't switch to Neotel but I don't want to lose out on cheap(er) international bandwidth either. Catch 22!

Neotel must be using similar phones to Tata in India. Some of Tata's phones can be viewed here. Under one of their tariff plans it says that a new phone costs 1122 Indian Rupees or R210.00. Tata India ask for 24 month contracts on some of their plans and not on others. Let's hope that Neotel will be following this model.

These were the most important questions, and they have not been answered in this article.
 
agreed, not the greatest article, opened it thinking that they'd explain all our questions asked in the first NeoConnect article.

perhaps myadsl could approach them again and come back with something more informative.
 
Will they force you into a 24 Month contract if you buy the equipment out of the box, I can only see justification for the recoup of the equipment cost in the 24 Month contract?

Really? On what medium? As far as I'm concerned, voice quality and reliability is only in question when using other mobile/wireless technologies, such as cellular. Sadly, my Telkom-provided land-line is near perfect. I can't even imagine an improvement in the voice quality and reliability, let alone the need for it. Maybe they're talking about voice quality and reliability in remote areas? You know, those places where people can afford R599 for a converged service with better quality and more reliable voice services?

I'd really love to know how Neotel did this 'research' and what the sample population was...

Thanks for the link! Some of those phones look really... impressive :p I'm all for Neotel. I'm looking forward to seeing what products they release in May. If they have an uncapped option for under R1,200 then I'm sold. I also hope they rectify that whole issue with not being able to call and remain connected. I don't really use a landline except for international calls.

Actually, that's a good point - anyone have any idea how much their international calls are? Or did I just miss that?

And what happens when they launch other technologies like WiMax & ADSL within the next 24 months? Will they let you migrate without penalties? We need to see those contract terms.
 
Have anyone noticed that it's cheaper to phone a Telkom number off-peak (Regional & National) :confused::confused:

On-net (Neotel to Neotel)
Regional: 0.33
National long-distance: 0.43
Off-net (Neotel to Telkom)
Regional: 0.29
National long-distance: 0.33

...and I see they've now included 30 minutes Local & Regional minutes to Telkom as well with NeoConnect :cool:
