Neotel NeoFlex vs Telkom DSL

There is no point in having a comparison when Neotel have once again missed a deadline to announce their prices.
 
A connection dropping at all at any time is a no no..
Sorry high latency and intermitted connection is not for me.
Fixed line for gaming best.
PLEASE Neotel fixed fixed fixed line plzz..

Session disconnects could be annoying but understandable, pitty he didnt mention how frequently it happened.

Lost of things really, VOIP, work, warez, porn, lots of porn, usenext, browse. I also game but I don't need internet for than, I have LAN and this thing called friends :p
 
I can confirm that Neotel’s NeoFlex service is stable and fast. If Neotel can maintain these service levels/performance and comes in with an aggressive price it is certainly a very viable replacement for ADSL unless you are a gamer looking for very low ping times.

I am surprised that people are unhappy with the potential price – It is significantly cheaper than anything else in the market, and 8c per MB out of bundle is certainly not bad. What else comes even close at the same speeds?

I am currently paying 8c per MB at Amobia! Actually it is 8.9c per MB so this will definitely be a welcome change. Price wise I am happy with their offering and I fail to see why people always run into the pages of history when they hear the word wireless.

Is this out-of-bundle or in-bundle? And what speed?

I agree. But they have terrible coverage. I live in an area which should be a
real target area (Joburg Northern Suburbs) for Neotel but they only have Neoconnect Lite coverage.

PS. Good article. But the author should have waited for the pricing before publishing.

I am on a 2Mbps 2GB package that costs me R300 per month. I buy data in either 250MB or 1GB bundles at R89 per 1GB. This is OK if you stick to 3GB to 5GB per month, but it gets pricey if you do, say, 33GB.

As far as speed goes they are incredible and I have had VOIP calls (over Truphone) to the UK and Japan and there is no lag at all. I am very impressed with them but it is just to damn expensive. Soon as I can go Neotel I will.

Unfortunately my moral values does not allow for me to become a Telkom customer.
 
Question on Neotel coverage. If I've got Neoconnect Lite coverage does that mean I'm within the vicinity of their base station but not close enough to it to get Prime? If so, does that mean latency is even worse?

I keep seeing 8 Cents per meg but if they are overcharging by 3 times more then its 24 cents per meg... Please stop saying 8 cents per meg at least untill they stop overcharging. ;)

Thanks for the feedback.

The 8c per MB from Neotel is out-of-bundle – their in-bundle rate is lower than 6c per MB. What I like about Neotel’s pricing is that they offer generous caps when compared with similar offerings in the market, and back that up with aggressive out-of-bundle data prices.

I don’t understand why people are complaining – If Telkom all of a sudden increase their usage limit from 3 GB to 10 GB and keep the price the same, would you not welcome that? Why not give Neotel credit for lifting the bar when it comes to monthly caps and OOB pricing?
 
When i get coverage ill get high(uncapped) one and then make my adsl 1gig unshaped for gaming
 
The reason for my connection is that typically I do not go above 4GB so it is cheaper than Telkom ADSL.

Secondly I believe that telkom has, and is continuing, to r4p3 this country and for me, as a high tax paying South African, I cannot just turn a blind eye to that and say "Oh well, they have the best connection, what else can I do". I rather useless or pay more at companies like Amobia - but I will never ever be a Telkom customer. R4p1ng my country is not something I will stand for.

I am in Stellenbosch, and Neotel is currently digging up the roads here. By February they should have coverage in my neighborhood and I will sign up at first opportunity. Not only because of their aggressive pricing but also because they are the competition for the biggest r4p3st of South Africa.
