Neotel Network Problems

I dont think their whole network is overloaded. Perhaps the wireless towers and that network, but tracing it from the US looks pretty good:

Gosh, Dr1tZ, I really feel for you. I stupidly applied for the Neoconnect prime unlimited on Monday even after reading all the negative comments on these forums. I'll keep my Telkom 384k line alive for two months. If Neotel works (no slower than 30kps), I'll ditch Telkom, buy a 500k data bundle to surf on during Neotel's extra bad periods, and use Neotel mostly to download on. If Neotel doesn't work, I'll pay the rest of the device price, dump the contract and continue with Telkom. An expensive experiment, I know, but I'll do a lot to have unlimited internet. The neoconnect prime device costs R80 x 24, so while I'm unhappy wasting almost R2 000, it won't break the bank, only dent it considerably. What made the decision really difficult for me was that many people on the forums complain about slow Neotel speeds, but then they mention the type of speeds that I'm used to on my 384k line. Those people who do mention speeds like 15kps scare me badly, though. I'll see how it goes when the device arrives next week.

average speed on the Lite uncapped for me is between 14 - 17kbps. I would say little more than half the speed of a 384k DSL line. Lastnight It would keep disconnecting, reconnecting, disconnecting etc etc... nonstop for about 2 hours, couldn't get online. I've also noticed that even if you set your connection to never drop the line when idle it will drop. you have to keep it busy!. Right now, I consider Neotel a temporary solution. Once the pricewar starts, I'll be shopping for faster and cheaper uncapped!

Wonderful advertisement for Neotel. What happened to all the claims that you had so much capacity available and that you would never reach the limit? Oh shucks we actually have some people signing up for Neotel? We never foresaw that.......

Well done for publishing an unbiased article on Neotel eventually RPM. I hope they don't cut their advertising

I can only thank heaven I stuck with the few teething problems I had on Screamer. It now works like a dream!

Having been a Neotel Lite user for some 8 months now, I can only confirm all the moans and groans above ... and don't think you will EVER get a response to an email to their support section. Not from them, oh no, NOT from them!
Maybe someone well connected with the new Tata-Neotel arrangement could inform them that the ostrich-attitude really does not work in South Africa.

Hold on a sec...
Did we really expect this to work...?
Honestly?
Did u really think there would be a change in the telecoms market?
Shame on u if u did...
Just another service provider over-exaggerating and under-delivering!

And wait...Seacom coming?
Really?
Will that make a difference?
Like everyone said Neotel will?
Well, let's wait and see, shall we...

@rpm - Well done on this article. I was really worried that MyBB wouldn't post this because they might lose advertising revenue. I'm utterly impressed! This just shows how this site will allways be a credible source of information, and no money will change that. Well done guys!

@neotel - Shame on you! These things don't just suddenly happen. A network takes time to get this congested. Why only act on it now?

somehow i knew this would happen, they're growing too fast and can't (won't) keep up, another telkom?

Bad network service

Is Neotel going to credit us for the No-SERVICE that we have not had for the past week?
I have just bought the package and have only today had a little service on the internet , after i had moaned bitterly of no -service to the call centre.
When it works, it is FAST.
Some thing that is good, is the clarity of the calls..!!!
