Hi i am looking at the 2MB uncapped LTE from neotel that is unshaped and un throttled, for R999.00 per a month.

Would it be possible for anyone to please give me feedback on this product and speed test results ?

Thanks

Hi

I am also considering this service as we have no Telkom lines in our area. Im looking to stream Netflix. Not necessarily in HD but just standard res. Has anyone used this 2MB Neobroadband service to stream?

Thanks

Hi when neotel came through to try install the system they told me that megawatt park is too overloaded and wouldn't be able to connect me to that one and all the others were too far away or obstructed. The 2MB LTE option also didnt work for us as they said we only had 2 bars of signal so left no where with this option. So sorry cant provide you with feedback. Going to maybe look at the Telkom LTE 50GB package.

In PTA at our other place we had got a 4MB line and it is able to play netflix and HULU easily on HD, im using the uncapped package from Afrihost by the way. So im sure the 2MB package should be able to do it. I have also ran two streams at the same time on the 4MB line in pta and it worked easily. I did use tinulr for my DNS as they simple and it just works.

Hope you are able to get a fix as in Midrand we have no lines and its really becoming annoying as telkom so called never has stock of the LTE modem or even the WCDMA phone system which my mother needs for her company.

All the Best

Thanks for your insight! I'm guessing Neotel cant charge you if they come out to install and there is insufficient signal?
I will also check out tinulr for my DNS as i was going to use Unotelly.

I would still like to hear from anyone who is on Neotel LTE 2 mb line if streaming works for them?

Nope they didnt charge us when they came out to do the test, what they literally do is take out the equipment and just move it around to see if they are able to get a strong signal and then if so they will confirm with you and install the external antenna and modem. The fee is R500 I think for installation, im still waiting to see what people have experienced from this though...

So has nobody had any experience streaming video over Neotel's LTE 2mb broadband service?

Hi Mclarry,

Friend of mine in Centurion has the 2Mbps uncapped LTE from Neotel. He's running Netflix extensively, and no problems reported, other than that the quality of the video is automatically selected, so may not be HD all the time. Also he noticed that tunlr also limits the speed of the tunnel, so changing the DNS setting would be a better solution, but need a PC at home to do it on.

Regular speed test shows that download drops to just below 2 Mbps, no matter the time of day. I would also want it, but i have no coverage or signal in Midrand. I have tested LTE in a lot of places outside the coverage maps, and have seen up to 20 Mbps. Except my place...bummer!

Hi SideWinder

Yeah this service is uncapped and unshapped, they have to provide you with the correct speed. I also stay in midrand and i have just switched over to LTE and getting speeds of 50mbps and faster, my upload speed is at about 8mbps. why dont you get a antenna ?

Under_sky,

Neotel LTE is completely different to all other LTE (4 GSM guys) SP's, in that it is only limited by speed (Neobroadband LTE product) - focused on small/medium business and individuals with unlimited CAP, and amount of Gigs you can use (NeoFlex LTE), like home consumers who require a little more speed, but Capped service - 15, 20 & 25G caps. Anyone can buy any service, depending on your needs & budget.

Yes, I believe the 4 x GSM SP's offer good value (for now), but watch out of the OOB pricing. It will kill your purse. Each user may have a different requirement, thus the answer is not always the same.

Tested LTE with external antenna with very high mast, (17m above ground) - still no signal. Not up to it to try again. - Not hopeful that Neotel will add towers in a hurry here.

Fantastic feedback thanks! I will give this service a try, the million dollar question now is if they will have coverage at my house!

Undersky & Mclarry,

PM me your GPS/addy, and i will arrange a decent site survey (only if in Midrand/Carlswarld area, as per signature!)

Guys

I am looking at getting the Neo LTE uncapped service as well - I have good cover (apparently) - but would like to know if it is worthwhile - also for home use and streaming mainly.

My Telkom ADSL line is now down for 2 months and I am am fed up..

Any advice?

Thanks
Mouton

Mouter,

Neotel maps aren't particular accurate. I can bring a unit to test at your place, if in Midrand, but mine is already being used for that, so can only help you in a week or so. PM if interested.

10Mbps

I have the 10Mbps LTE and it works great and has 1 bar of signal, I can stream 3 x separate channels from the UK onto my roku boxes. hits 9.7mbps constantly

AV,

Sorry been busy. Honeydew Manor is partially covered, so depends on your actual address. You can check on Neotel's website to check if you are within coverage. Yes, the input fields are not strait forward to operate, but eventually, you'll get it.

Just before you give up, send me a PM!
