I have been contacted by Neotel to use their uncapped 5Mbs Wimax for R2299 + VAT. I am currently on Mweb business uncapped 4Mbs - only get around 1,5Mbs at best and my line keeps dropping. Around 4km from exchange.

Neotel say a SLA is part of the agreement and I will have no more problems. Contention ratio of 10..... blah blah blah....

Can I have general comments on the Neotel Wimax service before I consider this as an alternative as I am fed up with my line dropping all the time?

Well if I were you I'd definitely try it out.

We are based in Cape Town and have been using this product since September 2011. We have been very happy. Before we got the NeoBroadband WIMAX 5 Mbps down and 2 Mbps upload, we were also on Adsl. Our Adsl lines could not sync at sufficient speeds so the best we got was less than 1 Mbps. Even then we used to lose connection quite often.

With Neotel we have lost connection 3 times for a maximum of 30 minutes or so each time.

If you have people accessing any servers remotely you will really appreciate the 2 Mbps upload speed. This was another problem for us with Adsl when using remote access we were limited to the line 512 upload speed.

Oh I forgot to mention speeds. For local download we get the full 5 Mbps. International obviously varies quite a bit but generally not less than 2.5 Mbps. Have a look at the following speed results.

Neotel Wimax

I've been using them for about 6 months on their 5Mbps solution and I am very happy. I only once had an issue where I couldn't use the internet and that was because a cable in Midrand was broken. they re-routed the line in 5 minutes and I was back up and working.

You even get a call back to check that all is working again, I NEVER had that with Telkom.

Good luck, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised

Does their service include time travel ? :D

I have been so impressed I would believe it does :o
However that is coming off a very low base i.e. Telkom
I think I am just so relieved not to have to deal with Telkom anymore. Anyway Neotel would have to treat me quite badly to come even close to what I experienced with Telkom. I am hoping that Neotel will offer WiMax to the home market sometime soon and I will go for them there too.

Man if we could get the cell companies to offer 5 to 10 gigs at a reasonable price and neotel wimax for real broadband we could burn down telkom and nobody would care.
