Crystal web.

When it's streaming 720p happily, line sits at 450KB/sec

Thanks, I've heard about it, just wasn't sure.
They seem quite small....

I guess it's a name to keep in mind.
I see that their website isn't up yet?

Would you mind posting what you pay for 10Mb uncapped (I'm assuming it's uncapped)?
Thanks!

I'm having a frustrating problem with netflix on my ps3

Content at 720p looks great, but it keeps jumping up to 1080 SuperHD. Not quite enough bandwidth for this so I get compression artifacts. How do I restrict it to max 720p?
I think you can control the quality with the Web interface.

Hi guys. Setup was quite easy on the ps3. Busy trialing Hulu and Netflix. But I'm unable to log into the Playstation store anymore (US and SA). It shows an error that it's undergoing maintenance. Permanently.
Any ideas?

So Hulu and Netflix still work, but you're unable to connect to the store?
I had that same issue a few months ago.
I had to delete the Store App and re-install it. This was the only way to fix it that I found.

They have not yet launched, and as such I'm not going to put up pricing as they haven't finalised their product range. Current pricing is comparable to other 10mb uncapped solutions though...

Your options are auto, low, medium and high :p
High = HD - 720p or higher
medium = SD

So, nope. Not what I need :(

I'll try WebAfrica out for a few months, if not I might give Crystal Web a try :)

I had to get a new PS3, and i have mis placed and forgotten the password for netflix. How do i reset it? It gives me some arbitrary question when i say rest, for which i have zero idea. I am logged in on one of my pc's, but you can't view the login details from netflix.

But if you change the answer on the logged in pc you should be able to use the new answer to reset the password.

Hey @shreez , I'm also in Cape Town (via Cybersmart) but get these when going to the Unotelly link in your original post:

Primary DNS (Johannesburg) ~ 506 km away from you
Secondary DNS (Cape Town) ~ 762 km away from you

Its different from the DNS IP for Cape Town in your post - has it changed?

Also following bold notice on instruction page for PS3 on UnoTelly:

Netflix now does forced public DNS lookups on the PS3. To get Netflix working correctly on your PS3, you'll need to perform an additional step of setting up static routes to block public DNS servers. Please click here for more information about static routes and router specific tutorials.

http://help.unotelly.com/support/solutions/articles/43631-setting-up-unodns-on-your-playstation

Is this something we need to do? Need to add to your original post perhaps?

Cheers

Howzit Cigano,

Thank you for your valuable feedback.
Lots has changed since my original post - UnoTelly has updated their IP addresses and added the JHB server, as well as overhauled their website.

I've just checked their website now and I see what you mean about the forced public lookups.
However, I've not had to make any changes on my own setup at all.
Thankfully, I've never seen any of the error codes which suggest forced public DNS lookups (and my PS3's firmware is always updated as soon as it made available, so it is running the latest firmware).

I will edit the post to reflect the new server IPs and updated URL and I think the best place to mention your suggestion will be in the troubleshooting section of the post.
This way the setup is still easy to follow, and if you experience a problem then there is some basic guidance.
Going into too much of details on how to configure specific routers with static routes (mine doesn't even support DD-WRT!) would be a bit too much.
Apologies if I have misunderstood you.

Thanks again for giving me constructive criticism.

Thanks shreez . Not meant as criticism but rather as contribution :)

Out of interest, are you still using the original IP's or have you changed to the new ones?

Also interesting is that Unotelly says I'm 500km away from Cape Town and 700km away from Jhb... that would put me somewhere in the Freestate, lol! I thought Cybersmart was Cape Town based... anyway, I digress, just interesting.

I only started the Unotelly step last night then had to go to bed. Will continue tonight the rest of the process and see how far I get. I have no idea what forced public lookups are so will try without as you suggest.

hehe Yes, it was a contribution rather, my mistake ;)

I'm using the current IP addresses, as I believe that the ones in my post might no longer exist. Oops!
I'm in JHB and I also get the same message about the JHB server being 500kms away! My advice - don't pay much attention to it.
We're not sure how or where your ISP's international breakout link is, but don't think too much about it.

I've been a bit hectic but I will update the post as soon as I can :)

Good luck, I'm sure that you won't have any issues as this is the first I've heard of the forced lookups.

Cheers!

Kinda strange. I used your exact setup guide before these changes happened on Unotelly and Netflix and have never ran into any trouble as yet with the original setup.

Should I be worried or happy? :p

lol - Well I'm quite chuffed that my guide is rock solid! :)
Honestly though, I don't think that we have anything to worry about until we experience such issues.

Netflix no doubt know about third party DNS solutions like UnoTelly, however I'm pretty sure they don't mind taking the millions of dollars of cash from "illegal" users.
They are in a perfect position to claim ignorance and just move along.

I wouldn't sweat it until there's reason to!

Ok, got Netflix working without the need to do anything extra from the original post except for the new DNS IP's. Just a few pointers as I suspect some things have changed and this is what I experienced:

step 5 & 6 w.r.t. new PSN account:
I struggled a bit with logging in with a new PSN account as I got the infamous "You can not log on with a different email address" error and took some Googling and fiddling to get around that. Maybe add more detail here on exactly how to do this for the noobs like me. E.g. I had to create a new user on my PS3 and then link that to the new PSN account that I created via the PSN website. The console account and PSN account are two different things.

step 6:
Once signed in under the US account, there was no Hulu or Netflix on the TV Services menu. Only Amazon and Red-"something". I had to go the the PS Store, search for Netflix and Hulu to download them.

Step 7:
I didn't need to enter a full address for Netflix, only US as country and a zip code. The address fields are there but not validated, only checked for "not empty" so I entered "na" for the first few fields.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Neville
