Hi all,

I am having some problems too - followed the steps above (signed up for Unotelly trial etc). Got all the way to downloading the Netflix and Hulu apps. But when I opened the Netflix app it told me that it is not supported in my region yet. Any assistance?

I did manage to get Hulu working but it's buffering REALLY badly on my new Bitco account. Which is really disappointing. I'm not sure what to do to fix that.

Thanks!

I guess you missed the part where the Netflix app uses Google dns that you need
to block.

I did miss that. Is that something I can do through the PS3? I'm not sure how that works, sorry!

I am also pretty disappointed Hulu is buffering so badly. It's basically unwatchable...

Thanks for any help!

I haven't needed to do that in ages and pretty sure I've reset my router since I last did it as well.

Ryanblu did you change your DNS entries on your router or the PS3 to point to Unotelly?

****

Yup just checked. No static routes configured and I used it with PS3 and PS4 daily.

Hi SauRon,

I changed the DNS addressed in the PS3 network settings. I didn't want to futz with the router as I don't really know what I'm doing and kinda prefer to leave it as is.

Make sure that you're pointing the PS3 to Unotelly DNS servers, and secondly, login to the Unotelly portal and make sure that your IP address is updated. A lot of issues are resolved by simply updating your IP. I've learnt that first hand!

Good luck!

Thanks shreez. i double checked the DNS servers, all ok, and updated IP through unotelly. Still can't access Netflix, just says "not available in your region". Appreciate any help! :)

No problem!
Ok, I'm assuming you getting this message from the PS3 app.

Do this - check if you can get to the Netflix.com (or Hulu.com for that matter) page from your PC. If you can, it just confirms that UnoTelly is working.
If you can't, check your setup (especially if the PS3 is pointing to the same servers).

If that doesn't work, try deleting the app and installing it again.
Sometimes Hulu keeps prompting me for a username and password, and even though I enter in the correct credentials it never accepts them.
My solution here is again to check that your IP is updated, and then exit and restart the app.

I know I sound repetitive about updating your IP, but only once you've used this for a little while, you'll understand what I mean. All sorts of funny things happen...

Thanks again. I did update the IP - I take your point really well so no worries on worrying about sounding repetitive as I probably need step by step handholding anyway :)

I did update the IP and have restarted the app a couple of times, with the same result. Should I delete the app, update the IP, and redownload it do you think?

Delete the app, and download it again.
More importantly though, please confirm if you can access it via your PC.
The point of this is to confirm that it appears like you are coming from a US IP address to Netflix.
It will help narrow down the issue to the PS3 as opposed to your entire network.

Just a question guys, so i read the basics of setting up my system for access to Netflix/Hulu, however, what is the benefot of paying for a service like Unotelly, when there are free DNS severes available? Ive already used two different services that have worked fairly well.
Just looking to see the reasoning, also, ive only been playing with this for a week, so might have missed out somethings.

Hi,

I've used something when I first started myself (I can't remember what it was called, think it was unblock.us), before writing this guide.
It worked well for Netflix, but Hulu refused to play.
When I decided to sign on for the UnoTelly trial, updated my IP and tried Hulu again, bam, worked first time.

The other huge benefit is that you can choose to breakout from different countries for Netflix, thereby gaining access to the different libraries for each country.
I don't do this very often, but the option is there.

Lastly, the support on UnoTelly is some of the best I have ever seen.
You get a reply to a support ticket within minutes, I'm talking like 4 minutes here - they don't play around.
So when you've got an issue and you obviously can't ask Netflix or Hulu for support, whom are you going to turn to?

I think for $5 a month it's well worth it.
Also read up on the free Hola Chrome plugin, and that they were selling PCs idle time to be used as part of a botnet.

Ultimately it's up to you, but you'll be hard pressed to find an unhappy UnoTelly customer (or many people using Netflix here and not using UnoTelly).

Everything just works with Unotelly. Also as said you can easily change between over 20 different Netflix regions.

Thanks. I only changed the DNS settings on my PS3 and not on the router, so I wouldn't be able to access it via PC, right? (as I said, not very technical here :) ). I did get Hulu to work on my PS3 (albeit with so much buffering it's basically unwatchable) so the DNS settings should be working I think...

Yup, I agree they should be working.
If you like, you can install something called UnoHelper (find it on the UnoTelly website).
This will automate the pointing of DNS from your PC as well.

I'm not sure what else to suggest... it usually just works.
You'll need to confirm that Netflix is seeing your IP as originating from the US.
My advice - install UnoHelper (it will also automatically refresh your IP address) and then go to www.netflix.com.
Perhaps try and complete the registration from there and then delete the app on the PS3 and try again.

Anyone know how to set static route to block Google DNS on a dlink router. I see the form but not sure what to put in there.

Sorry if this doesn't help, but I'm not sure of the syntax.
If you're trying to block it using a static though then you'll need to effectively null route it (or blackhole it).

Would you not have to add a next hop to an IP which does not exist on your network, like 1.1.1.1.
Maybe try this?

Hello everyone!

I am coming into this a bit late and not sure what I have missed without trawling through 30 pages of posts, so if this has been answered previously let me know and I will go back and find it.

I have had Netflix and UnoTelly for over a year. I also have a PS4. I used to watch all of my Netflix through the PS4 without issue until all of a sudden i got one of a number of error messages. I checked with UnoTelly who told me it was because my PS4 was now forced to perform a public DNS lookup to Google.co.za and as such Netflix could tell that the PS4 was in SA, despite my altered DNS settings.

UnoTelly said the only way around this was to set up a static route on my router, but said my router, a Duxbury router, was not capable of this and so there was nothing I could do. I searched the internet for hours but came up with nothing. I tried fiddling with settings myself but eventually landed up having to factory reset the router because I got so lost and was not sure what I had changed.

I currently run Netflix through a browser on my laptop which I connect via HDMI cable to my TV/audio system. It works fine but is a bit of a hack.

Is there another way of getting around the PS4 issue? I would obviously prefer not to spend ages trying to reconfigure my user unfriendly router, so if there is no easy option, what is the best device to use as a media player to simply plug in, change the DNS settings and watch Netflix on my television.

Again, sorry if this has been covered here previously. Let me know if it has and I will go and find it.

Many thanks,

MS

Hi MS,

Ok, so kind of the same thing happened to me, but it did not necessitate a static route.
The way I noticed this, was that when I checked what IP address UnoTelly had, it was pointing to a Google address.

I had to manually update my IP address and everything worked again.
I have had to repeat this a few times.

The giveaway is that after updating your IP with UnoTelly that Netflix is still broken.
If this happens, always check the IP which UnoTelly is pointing to.

I hope this helps.

Which router is it? Having looked through the manual for the DUX412, the first one found, static routing is indeed possible.
