Netflix could destroy DStv - MultiChoice

Are we only figuring this out now ? the only issue is sport . maybe showmax will jump on board for sport .

Imagine how unhappy people will be when they don't have to watch the same DSTV advert telling watchers how much value it is 100 times day.

Ironic that DSTV wants a legal monoploy via the useful morons at ICASA.

That's what happens when one creates a monopoly. Multichoice has dominated the South African subscription TV space and charged premium rates for choice that does not appeal to all subscribers, resulting in the word "choice" being to a large degree a fiction. The programmes that are appealing are hedged about by dross, which acts as a poor attempt for claims of providing worthwhile programming. For anybody paying their subscriptions in relation to the enjoyment/informational content that is received, the service seems to be overpriced.
Why do we have to subsidize content for a company that has used its South African base to help invest in a Chinese company in which it has become a major shareholder.
If it is concerned about global competition, it should use its global investment base to fund its entry into competing globally and not act as a monopolistic player in its home market.
Communication technology is a global phenomenon today and those wishing to play in the space need to adjust their business model appropriately.

DSTV & Multichoice have only themselves to blame as they show a lot of rubbish and have stupid channels like HGTV & TLC. Where are all the brilliant BBC channels that were promised. Also who the hell is interested in Turkish TV?

Are we back to this schit again? they were only too keen to sign Netflix onto their new decoder, now Netflix is the devil again.

And the govt has basically poisoned cricket now while soccer is dead already and rugby is complaining of stomach pains. Athletics, what's that apart from being part of the name of a dead stadium in Jhb that hasn't been used in more than a decade.
So, soon the sport advantage that DSTV has will probably soon be dead as well.

I think they saw the viewer numbers for Netflix as compared to their own schitty offerings, and promptly made a big fat poo in their panties.

We had what...18-24 months of this on the main MyBB site, then it went away, then Multichoice announced they were lumping Netflix & Amazon Prime on their decoder for single billing, and now back to moans and groans.

They woke up too late. Can they say Kodak...?
