Netflix testing account sharing feature - cheaply add extra users

DSTV stuck in that 90's mentality, where you need a SEPERATE decoder to watch their TV.
so a SEPERATE account for every person that wants to stream.

forgetting that the internet exists, where one can get literally any kind of entertainment at a moments notice.
and all for free with Zero adverts.

still exists somewhat with torrenting and telegram/Reddit channels floating around with pirated copies

It is going to be a fine line between legitimate use and actual password sharing outside your family.

I'm paying for X streams simultaneously. Where people are when those streams are used is irrelevant.

So for me, I see it as I'm paying for X streams within my family or my own devices.
I see no issue with there being an additional fee if I want to rather have 2 additional people on my profile who don't live with me or use my devices.

I would almost look at it as being I pay for X streams from a location (where the device needs to check in once very so many days/weeks or whatever), or pay an additional fee to have that location requirement disabled.

Also sometimes you have someone you financially support like an elderly parent that doesn't necessarily live in the same house as you but is still part of your family. I see nothing wrong with that person using your netflix account.

But I can see where Netflix is going with the idea, rather attempt to monetise those users who share accounts but not charge full price. They may convert 30 or 40% of those users into new revenue.

I'm concerned that this sort of thing is the start of a movement towards limiting the streaming service to a single location. Then we may as well be back on archaic garbage like DSTV because we've lost one of the very big benefits of online streaming.

This is nonsensical... If I pay for a 4 user account, only 4 users can watch at any given time. How does it matter in real terms whether those 4 users are in one location or not?

Anyone know the answer?

Because you aren't actually paying for a 4 user account, But a 4 stream account

I posted in the other thread which doesn't seem as active, so I will mention it here as well.

It's a bit kak for me since my kids don't live with me and they use my Netflix account on their smart TV. So it's one family, but I'll have to fork out a bit more. Not that I really mind. Or, it just means I'll downgrade from the Premium package, which has 4 streams and is 4k, to the Standard, 2 stream package. They have my 65" 4k TV, but they have no idea what the difference between FHD and 4k is. I've got a little 32" which can't do 4k in any event.

So I'm not too fazed

If Netflix expects use from one fixed location then that will be a problem.
