Yea buying extra batteries to get you the last few percent off grid wrecks ROI

But when you land in his scenario you don't care that the roi window was stretched
If you can survive without power from eskom for days

Roi is a motivation to do solar , but is actually irrelevant as you say

It is about having power

Yeah I've thrown that out the window right now I'm running R40 bucks an hour just to have warm showers and food

Yeah, you can't ignore the cost, but ROI is basically irrelevant when the alternative is at best unreliable supply and at worst completely none.

It ain't all rosy

The highways ain't as nice as i remember jhb's

There is always degradation/corruption in SA it is just snails pace in the cape imo ,not non existent

I've said it before; time for gas dude. It just alleviates all these issues.

Isn't it cheaper to wire the geyser to the inverter and get a cadac bottle and R400 gas stove?

No one in SA is getting solar to save on power bill. That's just a nice bonus. When ROi was all the talk, I said back then it's irrelevant in the SA context.

Gas guys came yesterday, but they fraked up the install of the stove and actually broke my glass stove, damaged the granite as well. Geyser at the moment is just a bit out of reach maybe next year if I get a bonus. Already spent 26k this last week to get generator, hook up, plus gas stove which is now put on hold while they fix the granite

Yea lots of old infrastructure that iis like an old battery in a car

As long as you drive enough the battery keeps working, but forget the light on once and it packs up

Load shedding is like leaving the lights on on an old battery to some.of these infrastructure

So enterprising fellow decided that while the mini sub was off due to a tripped switch he was going to help himself to the R100 worth of copper, he managed to snag the 3 cables going to houses, but when he hit the live cable from the substation, he blew up the mini sub.
Also left some blood, some charred skin, put it this way, that R100 isn't going to really help him much

We recently paid a local security company to secure our substation to avoid more theft like this. Neighbors closest to the sub have the keys and there is a sticker on the sub to call them if you want the keys. It’s been very effective. About 15 people paid into the pot to have it done and I covered the balance.

Yeah we're looking at doing that now, as our street is a horse shoe shape with other little streets branching off, access is only through 2 road entrances and one greenbelt. Normally the security companies patrolling sort those guys out.

Idiots like this stole CAT cable from the CCTv setup at my wife's family factory in Laser Park this last week. The geniuses got around 100m worth of CCA cable that is basically worthless.
