NEW ATi HD 4850 Trouble

I looked again and I don't see any "checkerboard patters" at all :( It won't be contrast as LCD monitors are designed to run at 100% contrast, but it is however a prob if you brightness is pushed too high, because that is what causes heat in the panel and can cause "image deffects", the optimal precentage of brightness for an lcd is around 30% give or take 5%.

last time i had oddities like these it was iether the port where the card plug in or the video ram itself.

best would be to take out the card try it in another pc after you have tried another screen on your rig.

if the card does the same on another pc, then the card is kla, if not then its iether the montherboard's pcie or the screen.

-small chance its dust in or around the connecters maybe... (clean out rig properly)

This image is the ONLY image that looks pixelated (little patterns, as you say) I dunno what thats from, it looks like 16-bit could be enabled in compatability or something, either that or your pc is in safe-mode :O, I doubt it though... This is strange...

i have a MSI x38 Diamond, and it is giving some problems

okay so that patterns, well it occurs all over the game in fases it flickers and forms especially at high speed gaming....

Great, you didn't feel like the mobo issue could be a prob in this situation until now!? :rolleyes:...Ok, I just have one Q that could make life a little easier, have you ever updated or reset the bios since you got your new graphics card?

yes i have, 3 times! 2 of them was the same update, and the other the new one that MSI send me to fix a few bug (but it made thing worst) in prosses of getting new one i hope)

That could be your problem, anyway of reverting to a working bios version, possibly the version that came standard?
 
That bell looks a bit off. In the shadow. Looks like 16bit...or some low quality shadow.

All I can tell you to do is to test the card in another PC. If it is the same, blame the card. If it works there, blame your PC.

i tried, believe me, but it was a live update from MSI, and cant download the older versions. anyway i don't have a floppy drive

Its a new PC, was a gift to myself (R14k) new components, thought they test there hardware??:mad:

Yes yes, of course they do. But they only test 1 in a batch with certain hardware. Even with this Quality Testing you will always get a certain % of the batch that will die - nothing anyone can do about it. Your card/motherboard/etc might just be the lucky one that is DOA. Test it on another pc, then RMA it.

Ok and did you set the bios back to default settings when you installed the card? Because I had to set my bios back to default settings when I installed my two hd3870's after having a 9800gtx on my Gigabyte x38-dq6 and then formatt and reinstall windows because I either had a 16bit image on boot or no image. So maybe you could try reinstall windows. Otherwise try the card in another PC.

will i didn't have a other card with this motherboard, and when i flashed the bios it automatically set the settings to default, did reinstall fresh windows

o well

this just made me realised that Im sticking with nvidia.. ATI still has that damn pixalte issues. :eek::mad::rolleyes:

I've got two hd3870's in crossfire and I've had no issues. At least my AA works unlike nVidia 9series plus the lighting effects are better on ATi cards, nVidia just makes everthing shiny (I know I had a 9800gtx) :sick:
