New AXXESS pricing.

Im sorry but im not impressed with Axxess, ive used their uncapped service for about half a year and it is much slower than other isp's that use the telkom backbone. Mweb which also uses the telkom backbone does in fact have the best performance when it comes to speed and latency, i find it strange that 90% of ADSL isps use the telkom backbone, yet provide completly different speeds and reliability.
 
i stand to be corrected but i think all uncapped accounts are slower

If they had an uncapped service it was through UUNet and shouldnt be confused with the 30gb capped version that runs through SAIX just like Mweb.

I switched from Mweb 6gb to uunets uncapped then to a 30gb saix and I can tell you the 30gb service is the same as mweb's offerings at a fraction of the price.

Axxess never provided an uncapped service through SAIX. It would have been stopped immediately from Telkom as they did with others.
Most probably it was through UUNET and we all know what happened...

Can anyone confirm this? I am looking at an uncapped account through IS, and would like to know whether I will have any issues with it.

Otherwise I may just go with MWEB unlimited, because even 90GB is too little for me per month, I have had a buddy of mine that has been running tests for me over the past month on his MWEB account, to ensure that when I arrive, I will be able to do my work without a hitch. So far so good.

I just want the best one available to me.
 
from what I have heard uncapped in SA is bad... not sure myself though.
I reccomend 30gB axxess,webafrica
 
I see the uncapped option is no longer on their page. So I'm not sure whether they are still offering it. But when it was, I'm almost positive I read that it was through IS.

The mweb is IS so its an either or if thats what you're looking for. However at the current rates (r350 excluding the ultra low specials as I cant recall when you're moving out here) you'd be able to afford nearly 4 30gb accounts (mwebs uncapped is r1350pm).

If this buddy of yours is on the unlimited then all should be well with his tests but if he's on a 3,6,9 account keep in mind that thats running off the saix network.

Just a quick question. I see on the site they allow up2 four loggins from remote locations. So they are fine with me sharing a log in with my home adsl and my work adsl?

Will this affect the speed in any way?
 
They're pretty much fine with you sharing whatever way you want. The speed will be the same regardless.

Good info ... thanks! My buddy is running a 9GB MWEB account, so its SAIX, which means R350 x 4 30GB may be the way to go, especially now that I have proven that running on the SAIX backbone is perfect for me, and it is still marginally cheaper than than an unlimited account (with tax) - which is on IS and has not been proven to me as yet.

My decision is now made, thanks again for your valuable input.

I arrive in 2 weeks time, little nervous though, hoping Telkom doesn't do too many crazy things by charging more for higher caps. I will however keep a machine here in the US, and use terminal services from SA to the US for the higher cap type of work I need to do - downloading large files etc.

You'll also be able to take advantage of the WA or ISOFTNET (who its said will match and offer on MyADSL).

Axxess has not reduced their prices any further so you might want to look at them after October if the current pricing model hasnt been changed. Though by the sounds of it WebAfrica are perfectly competent - I havent heard enough about isoftnet to formulate an opinion. WA apparently match axxess in every way except for price where they're r150 less.

Sigh - it would have been nice to support a small-city operation like Axxess but they've got that small-city mentality it seems.

Ps - I've seen the way the Rangers are playing - I'd be leaving too.
 
Well the new Imaginet prices are crucifying them. R299 for 30 gigs? Thats R50 cheaper.

Seems to be a price war going on. Or everyone is just trying to grab as many hearts\ and minds before October. Hope they don't know something we don't.

r150 cheaper? Is that over the next 3 months or per month?
 
Sorry, tfinger trouble. R50 cheaper per month.

Axxess = R349-00 per month for 30 gigs/
Imaginet = R299-00 per month for 30 gigs/

So Imaginet is R50-00 cheaper per month.
 
Anyway - I'm disappointed with axxess. It seems they're sitting back instead of being proactive. Personally I couldnt care less about buying in 5gb increments - I want value for money.
