New AXXESS pricing.

Dunno - thinking Axxess might come in with a last minute save.

i would recommend them, some would recommend axxess. for the same price why not go with who's closer to you, since you know them personally as well. besides somehow i think '@hyperlink.co.za' sounds a little cooler as your email address :D just kidding. haven't had a problem with them though

i was with mweb, was getting download speeds up to around 40Kb/s on a 192 line. still getting those after changing. hope telkom dont catch on

i am worried that when the promotion is over the price will go back to R599/m. i know that i can just change ISP again if they do but I would rather stay on one, I hate switching

There are three things that worry me.

1) WA discount is only to MyAdsl readers. What about all of their other loyal customers, they are still paying R500+ per month. I don't believe this is fair to their loyal customers. All the people who move across are going to have to deal with that when they are customers. Axxess has automatically decrease my monthly price on a couple of occasions without even a question from me. That is the way the WA should have done it.
2) Everyone is beside themselves with the 30GB accounts. That is an aweful lot of downloading. Does everyone really need this? I am using a 10GB, I don't see the reason to move to a 30GB. Is everyone going to be downloading Linux distributions 3 times a month. Companies may need this sort of bandwidth but people who are not doing anything illegal will probably be stretched with 15GB.
3) That brings me to point 3. I think with everyone going crazy and downloading the world on their new 30GB limits. This will probably agrivate that changes that Saix are going to make regarding pricing in 3 months. They may assume that everyone will do the same and be really harsh on pricing.

Dean points 1,2 & 3

1) Anyone can visit MyADSL and use the promotional code.
2.) 30GB is not that much at all. If your a heavy net user, it gives you the flexibility and freedom not to have to worry about watching your bandwidth usage. In any given month, there are at least 15gigs of game demos & movies, software updates, freeware etc. There is streaming audio and video, both of which are huge bandwidth hogs. To give you an example, streaming radio paradise at 128kbps uses 46meg an hour. If you listen to it 5 hours a day, a reasonable amount of time, every day of the month, you'll be using over 7gig. Add in general surfing to the mix and your already getting up to 30gig.
In terms of downloading mp3's and movies, well, that's up to the individual. Given the fact that the majority of people using broadband download music and movies without giving a damn about the legality suggests that this won't change. There's little to nothing the big media powerhouses can do about it, except to start offering a fair deal. People want media and they want it at their convenience. If these big media companies don't provide it, tough. As for the ISP's, well, they don't really care, they make it up to the individual - it clearly states that acceptable use means no downloading of music and movies, so they cover their asses. They will only prosecute if pushed.
The moral issue is a totally moot point. It's an individual choice and harping on about whether it is right or wrong is pointless. What we are seeing is an inevitable side effect of the digitising of music and film, until the distribution methods "settle down" it's a free for all.
3.) ICASA is calling for the default data allowance to be higher without additional cost to fall in line with international trends. 30gig is pretty much an international trend.

Agreed but WA should tell their customers about it. Not that many people know about MyADSL. Next time the special could be on Cape Talk or in the Washington times. The customers that have switched would not get those specials.

I can see how people would use that amount but it would be the exception not the rule. I have to push to use it and I am sure that most people fit into the same catagory. People who use a lot are the exception not that it is wrong in any way.

How I wish they would use half a brain and offer something decent, but thats another story.

I am living in hope. 3GB is downright ridiculous so there has to be a reasonable figure somewhere.

rburley - should be able to, it's dead easy.

First, get the promotional code :-

http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=24041&highlight=africa

Then head on over to the site and click on the order now button, next to the R500 30gig deal - don't worry, there's a place to put your promotional code on the form.

http://www.webafrica.co.za/

I dought if you'll get a call tonight, but possibly tommorrow.
I ordered yesterday and got a call on my cell 10 minutes after to verify.

Sup to you how you pay, I opted for electronic transfer. I then got login details to my account and all the banking details for the transfer are there.

I also dought that the system will activate your account right away - you need to pay first and then I guess it's a 2 minute exercise for someone at Web Africa to hook you up. Considering it's still July tommorrow, no big deal - you'll definately be up and running by Monday.

SORTED, I got it activated!!! 30gB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

What made you change your mind and go with Web Africa?

You call 10219, give them your phone number and tell them you want to cancel your Telkom Internet ADSL account.

Make sure they know you are only wanting to cancel your ISP portion and not your ADSL line.

I was told the cancellation was immediate, but who knows if thats true with Telkom. Just make sure you get a reference number.

Yeah - that's what I figured.

BTW, you've already been billed for next month by Telkom, because the bill has already been issued - but you must cancel on Monday - they may even get funny with you and say it's already August. Try and get a refund there and then.

They messed my cancellation up big time, but I managed to get R500 off my latest bill, so it all evens up.

Go into a Telkom shop to do the cancellation.

The thing is that I went in to a telkom shop last month already to cancel and the dumb fool said that it has been cancelled but guess what, it aint! So I will fukin lose my cool if they want to bill me another month

Yeah - that's what happened to me - there has been a problem with the way that Telkom handles it's billing in that they changed the way that the rental and ISP portion are handled on their systems (not on your billing)

What was happening before was that people were cancelling the ISP portion and the entire ADSL account was being cancelled. Yep, they hire some real boffins at Telkom ;)

I was told they've got a person working full time to fix all the stuff-ups that happened due to the new internal billing structure.

i phoned 10219 now and the telkom idiot said that I must phone back the same number during office hours.

The whole thing is ridiculous really...
