Axxess ISP Unapped - "Managed" status

In my opinion Speed is overrated, I am patient - and I still do more than you in a month.. no offence :)
The money I save on ISP / Telkom costs - I spend on Popcorn.

If you work from home with large files, easily up to 6GB, speed becomes more important.

Axxess is shaping very strictly, because i used about 50gb and i am on a 1mb with 2mb line, and browsing is perfect but downloading certain files is such a hastle, it only goes at like 10kb/s if im lucky, I asked my dad if we can switch to Mweb as they currently seem to be the best in SA.
Good Luck man

Yeah, being managed right now. My browsing is unaffected, but my downloads vary between about 10-15 Kb/s, which is kind of infuriating when you're trying to download Adobe PDF reader to study for a calculus exam. Oh well, switching to Mweb at the end of the month. Where I paid about R545 for my 2MB line and data at Axxess, I will now pay R599 at Mweb. Though, the first two months of the six month contract will be free, so at least there's that. I have heard no complaints about Mweb, and on their site they promise an "Uncapped, unthrottled ADSL connection", so I'm hoping for the best.

Just remember its semi-shaped but unthrottled, I really want to move isp's cause it holidays and i can hardly play online, MwebGuy said he would give me a trail account to test, so I'm still waiting i hope its good because Axxess really f***ed up this time round

Can't get anything over 30kb/s for the past 3 days on my 1mbps account

EDIT: Trialing Imaginet account and getting full speeds

Axxess is, and is going to lose a lot of business because other ISP are outdoing them.

I think they have the viewpoint that all downloads are always piracy hence it being shaped and throttled into oblivion.

163.67 GB since the 19th of November on MWEB, pretty much exclusively through NNTP. Very satisfied. Afrihost and Axxess can suck a fat one.

So I'm assuming you're using Mweb's news server. How is it? Are you getting full speed? I only got about 60Kb/s on my 2MB line with news.internet.co.za, which is the only one that worked for me on Axxess.

I sadly dont have a computer so i dont really know the beauty of newsgroup, i just download torrents straight to my phone, anybody got some free Mweb, Plugg or open web accounts i can try for today?

Apparently my account is in 'managed' status, even though it doesn't indicate it in the control panel. :(

Downloaded 50GB over a period of 2 weeks on a 10Mb/s account.

That then clearly shows that you pay R496 for 50GB "Uncapped" data with Axxess.

I just cancelled my Axxess account, effective tonight and am going to give MWeb a try.

Sorry for the late reply, but no, it's with a subscription usenet plan with Astraweb. Currently I'm moving along at ~950KB/s on a 10mbps line and have been doing so the entire Saturday. Subscription to astraweb is $10 per month I think.

Just for interests sake I'd like to know from those still with axxess uncapped if the download shaping was relaxed today with the advent of the new month?

Not even 20kb/s on 1mb/s, I'm pretty sure there is something wrong with MTN

I am also getting 50KB/s for downloads on a 10 meg line. Streaming and browsing is still ok. I really don't know what to make of axxess at the moment, maybe they are trying to piss their clients off so they can decongest their lines or maybe something is seriously wrong with MTN. It is a new month and all managed accounts should be returned to full speed until the user crosses the threshold again but this is not happening.Instead accounts are being shaped from the very beginning of the months. They are also not answering tickets any longer, they have gone bunkers i tell ya! Mweb's 6 months package is looking pretty interesting to me now but based on what others are saying about it ,it is a scam!! SA ISP's are ***!

Yup... new month, rubbish speeds, no reply to tickets. WTF is going on???

How can an account be 'managed' at the start of a new month? For November I downloaded a total of 37gb on a 1mb account. I didn't even use the account on the 1st or the 2nd of this month, but have downloaded 2.61gb on the 3rd and 4th so far (650mb a day).

Support response:

Your uncapped account is currently being managed. An account gets managed when the usage of the account goes higher than the average usage of all the other users in your bandwidth pool. When an account is managed, only the downloads, like HTTP downloads and torrents, are slowed down but the browsing, video streaming etc. remain at full speed. The account will once again become unmanaged when the usage goes down. I apologize for the inconvenience.
