New Cell C data prices

From very good data two years ago, my Cell C data has just died.

But weirdly enough my Cell C voice is better than anyone else, including Vodacom and MTN.

This is close to Wanderers in Joburg.

I really don't have any mobile data from anyone nowadays, even Vodacom dropped from LTE to 2G.

Ported about 8 months ago to CellC...

Will not be staying a day longer than my contract requires me to... their data network is rubbish, their voice network is sketchy at best.

I'm with you there. I have moved one contract to Telkom, and I won't hesitate to move the other one to them either.

I have the same in the Pretoria East area. I almost never see dropped calls and make calls that are around 30 minutes mostly without any issues. I never use loads of data and never stream youtube or download massive apps using 3G and rather use wifi. My wife was using Cellc data and yes its terrible compared to Telkom Mobile.

Cell-C increases

Is it just me, or has Cell-C been getting expensive for data.

Change to out of bundle rates - 99c (was same as in bundle rate) (560% increase)

Cell C increased its SIM & connection fee from R114 to R195 (71% increase)

Data billing increment increased from 5kb to 25kb (400% increase)

Now data increases
2GB data bundle was R199, now R245 (23% increase)

Time to reconsider Cell C as it's no longer the cost effective choice.

Been with VC since the beginning (1997). About 2 years ago I ported to cell c, but I didn't sign a contract and kept it pay-as-you-go while I tested the waters.

I could only stomach 3 months of their slow as 3G data network, ported my number back to VC and signed a new contract, haven't looked back since. I can handle higher prices, but can't handle a shoddy network.

IMO, not many people read the news so won't be aware of the price increase, so nothing will happen, and only the small percentage of users that are in the know will move on.

True, that's how Voda & MTN have managed to have a strangle hold in our markets.

I tested the waters for 6 months on a prepaid sim... and all was great, and for the first few months it was great on the contract then it all went to a ball of cow dung.

Yea, you right, the first month was fine but performance kept sliding as they got more customers.

Was hoping they were going to drop the prices, i was only hanging around because of the cheap data, but alas, its time to move on, but now where to?

My bad. Wasn't aware that the two products were different.

You'd think that if they had the same name they'd have the same rules?

BOOOO CELLC

2 more months... 2 more months..

Seeing the price increases upset me. Twice now over these last few days I've had full HSDPA reception and zero interwebs on my phone.

I don't see how they can justify an increase for something that doesn't work.

It looks like I'll be joining the club and bailing to another network. I've reach that stage where I'd rather pay more for something that works properly.

Cell C has unveiled new prepaid, contract, and data prices, which kick in on 1 January 2015 for prepaid products and 1 February 2015 for contracts

I see the data prices in the article, but where are the prepaid and contract prices? /sarcasm

Oh, you meant:
Cell C has unveiled new prepaid and contract[-], and[/-] data prices, which kick in on 1 January 2015 for prepaid products and 1 February 2015 for contracts

Nope.. all prices increase...

Calls are now R1.05 per minute from what I remember.

I think the only reason that people put up with CellC's poor network was because the pricing was okay.

I've been procrastinating, but this is probably the motivation that I need to port away from CellC.

Their data network was epic in the beginning, but seems to be completely overloaded now. I remember testing against MTN and VC in the office when I first switched 2 years ago and Cell C killed the others. Sadly now I really struggle to get decent data connectivity.

I really want to support the little guys, but if they can't confirm the LTE roadmap I am not sure I can stomach it much longer:(
