Content discovery is available on the chrome cast 1, it's just the new app.

Can anyone help? Am I the only one with this problem?

haha okay but it seems everyone with the new Chromcasts like to keep to themselves... selfish bastards.

Well, there aren't many of them around in fairness. There's probably like 50 CC2's in circulation right now.

It's exactly the same experience as the original CC. It's just faster, has better wifi and a different form factor, from a user experience though nothing changes.

Yes, but I want to know about the new software experience. Content discovery, search, pre-load etc.

The new app is better than the old one, but it works the same with the original CC as far as I understand.

As far as I can tell the app doesn't do much beside list apps that support casting and allow you to configure the device.

I would be interested to know if screen mirroring from Android phones has improved in performance. Right now mirrored games are unplayable on the TV via CC.

But reports say it recommends shows and you can search across apps. It has a whats on section that actually displays shows. Non of this seems to appear when using my old CC with the New app. Someone must know something I don't then

Something is wrong with my network setup or phone, anytime I try to mirror it just stops casting. I haven't had time to troubleshoot yet though.

I think it should be fine as long as the games are not games that require fast reactions, that will always be a problem with a device like this. I've played games from my phone mirrored to my Roku 3 before and that was pretty decent, noticeable latency but some games are perfectly playable.

Maybe it's a region thing.

The new Apple TV is getting really good reviews. I'm totally getting that, but right now no Plex support is a dealbreaker. So it'll probably take another couple months for them to launch a Plex app, during which time the CC1 is doing an admirable job.

Personally I don't want to go Amazon Fire or Apple or Roku simply because the Chromecast has no limits to what you can stream and from where. If you're determined enough you can stream anything from any device.

I was thinking maybe a Nexus player or Shield would afford me the same borderless environment since you can still cast to them like a chromecast. I do want a remote and interface badly though.

Well given the cost of the CC, there's really no obstacle to having it alongside another more featured set-top box. I'm considering to just hold on to it.

Plex app will hopefully be coming pretty soon, the app has been submitted twice already for approval from Apple but been rejected for various reasons. It's back in review now so let's hope 3rd time lucky.

Shouldn't the local content search still work (I'm assuming the content discovery does actually read metadata from plex \ xbmc)? I can understand region issues for online content but the Chromecast should be able to search through local DLNA offerings?
