new chromecast

Thanks. Lastly, the special on Takealot for the CC at R399, is that a good deal? is it worth getting the CC for Netflix?

It's a good price and it's totally worth it to get it for Netflix, yeah. I'm quite a fan of the Chromecast by now if you couldn't tell.

That's a great price! Netflix is very good on the CC but be aware that you have to a) have the Netflix app on the device you're casting from and b) can be a tricky network set up to get it to work with services like Unotelly as the device's DNS is hard coded into the CC.

Any guides you can recommend?

Thanks very much. Its a NETGEAR N300 I think. Also have a Telkom / Hauwei router which I don't know how to change the DNS settings, still have to figure that out.

I received my new chromecast (v.2) from a friend visiting the USA! Paid ~R520.

A+ for looks. Haven't had time to really try it yet. (On the negative side, it came with a USA-type USB power supply but hoping my TV usb port can supply enough power).

The ones sold here are imported from the US too so they also ship with US-type plug. The adapter is rated 110-240V 50/60Hz so it can be used here with a simple travel adapter if necessary. It requires very little juice though so the TV USB port should provide enough power.

Can someone confirm that the TV's USB port is sufficient?

Can confirm but if the USB port is not powered when the TV is on standby the CC wont be able to use HDMI-CEC to automatically switch on the TV and change to the correct input.

The chromecast 2 comes with a 1 Amp PSU, which is double what a typical USB 1 or 2 port should supply. That said, the CC was designed to also be able to run from TV usb ports. I think I remember reading that if you have trouble with restarts and lost connections one of the potential problems could be insufficient power from the USB port. Google may even be recommending you use the PSU.

Maybe a stupid question, but how do I get the Netflix app onto my Samsung S5? Google play says not compatible?

Thanks
Sideload the APK or create a US Google Play account, or convert your account to a US account
