New data service from Vodacom

From the message-in-a-bottle-deparment

Hi Vodacom.

I'm a contract subscriber, and have been since 1996 (or therabouts)

However, whenever I try to do anything on vodacom4me.co.za I inevitably get the following error somewhere during my navigation of your site.

We are currently experiencing problems servicing your request.
Please try again later or log your error with our Web team.
Error Code: v4me-23-300

If I don't get the error (which is so unusual that I dance a little jig when it doesn't happen), there is absolutely no way for me to add a data bundle, or do anything concerned with data.

Please help. I would really appreciate it if you could fix these basic issues before embarking on another product launch.

I take it this is of no help to those whom currently are on contract data bundles?
(Or am I mistaken?)
Not that I am one.

But do current contract holders have a way of knowing when they're going over there in-bundle data?

Or do they simply have to go to the VC4me site?

If current data contract subscribers do not have a convenient way to know that they're going out of bundle.
Will this not fall into the same nay-saying as there was with Yebo4Me?
That being that contract clients on the voice side of things, were feeling that they were being overlooked with billing reductions in comparison to that of pre-paid customers?

/waits for HenryJ and morkhans

Data rollover??

I expect there is more to this story...
This must be in response to MTN's new packages launched this past week.

MTN does seem to set the pace when it comes to innovating - albeit that they just shuffled the price structure of the packages around.

These guys (VC and MTN) will add everything they can except the ones that really count, dropping the price and data roll over.

they launch something thats not ready and get users to tell them whats wrong, almost sounds like microsoft.....

To clarify and position Top Up Data.

Up to now there were three basic products you could get from Vodacom for data:

1) Contract Data Bundles (CDB):

- contract
- modem included
- automatic monthly renewal of bundle
- non-real-time billing
- Out of Bundle charges possible, leading to possible 'bill-shock'

2) Pre Paid Data (PPDB):

- no contracts
- cash purchase of modem
- manual recharge process (sometimes quite convoluted)
- real-time data billing
- Out of Bundle charges possible, leading to possible 'bill-shock'

3) Top Up (Voice) (TUV):

- contract
- cash purchase of modem
- manual recharge process (sometimes quite convoluted)
- real-time data billing
- Out of Bundle charges possible, leading to possible 'bill-shock'

What was requested by subscribers (many times on this forum) was to combine the best of all options, no possible bill-shock, real-time billing and modem included.

This is what Top Up Data (TUD) gives:

- contract
- modem included
- automatic monthly renewal of bundle
- real-time data billing
- NO Out of Bundle charges, NO 'bill-shock'

So this is not in response to anything any other operator did, but is a new system developed to give data users a more manageable and affordable option.

My personal believe is that this product will have the biggest uptake of all data products as it effectively addresses the issues with the original 3 products (CDB, TUV, PPDB).

Doesn't matter what you say here, you've gotta be joking if you think I'll fall for your marketing a PR spin w.r.t purchasing any of these "products"

Vodacom making things more affordable for the subscriber???? Really now, seeing is believing.

+ a Million

Actually I don't need rollover that much - I buy what I need for the month.

However, I will spend more money on Vodacom is it's more worth while - which it isn't.

If a phonecall costs R6 per minute, I will use it when I NEED to
If a phonecall costs R1,50 per minute, I don't give a rats ass and use it whenever I WANT to - because it's value for my money.

Now, if you don't understand what i'm trying to say here, it's "Vodacom will make more money from me if it's cheaper".

- It sounds silly, but when I don't worry about spending cause it's kinda cheap, I Spend.
- When I know how much it costs and it's a bit steap, I DON'T.

Hi there,

I have a 2G HSDPA contract, can I change to this top-up data approach? Also Is the only benefit then to be locked after the 2g is finished, or is there lower charges on bundles? What do I benefit?

thanks,

- NO Out of Bundle charges, NO 'bill-shock'

I've heard horrific stories of such bill shock, transparency and ral-time updates are the key to avoid this.

I don't think this is too bad, but I think bigger changes are yet to come.

Now correct me if I am wrong, but none of this will really be a problem if they would just charge 5c per MB ? That sounds like a much simpler and effective solution.

I think you can migrate, check with your SP.

Pricing is the same as normal contract pricing.

please vodacom, stop messing about and give us what we really need: bundle rollover and real-time updates. it's infuriating to see vodacom messing about with this unneccesary nonsense while you guys know EXACTLY what we want.
