New DStv decoder, additional XtraView features on the way

Streaming Ftw, no expensive upgrades required

I wonder if the xtraview over 3 viewing environments is correct, I wonder how it will work - probably the main decoder will use both RF in and out for xtraview.

No use for me but Know a few friends and family that this will work for.

The Explora is still available. As I understand it the new decoder is meant to be a cheaper option, similar to the 2P.

Hope it's a better decoder than that steaming little turd. Worst decoder ever.

"...will announce such when we are ready to do so". Kind of sums up their FU attitude.

The weakest link with the Streaming option is Telkom's turnaround times with faults. My line has been problematic since 18 April which badly affects my streaming to the point that I had to switch DStv back on to keep the family happy.

Patching of previous pvrs happening soon, we got to keep 'em upgrading $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

^ this is my reading of the initiative. It is nothing more than a money generating venture. Keep releasing new decoders with one or two new features every 6 months and lots of razz-ma-tazz!

The VARMINTS know full well what their market wants, but they will only release it in drips and drabs.

I love sport and especially love watching cricket. But I have found I hardly watch any sport apart from about 30 minutes of the IPL before I move on to watch some series with my wife. I find that I follow most sports I enjoy through the internet and live updates. My personal justification for dstv is no longer valid.

My children watch a fair amount of TV (within reason). Animations and doccies on Animal Planet or Nat Geo Wild. My wife probably gets most value out of it with all the series and doccies she watches. So for the time being the subscription continues.

Being price sensitve, the monthly subscription has reached a piont at which I am no longer comfortable. It is unlikely that I will sustain subscribing to dstv much longer unless I personally can justify it somehow.

This means that subscribers will soon be able to watch up to 3 different DStv channels on one installation.

This will be great for my household cause currently the only way on extraview to get that^ is with a combination of any of the current decoders + THE MUST HAVE... SD PVR and they are scarce as hen's teeth and if you do find one(gumtree/oxl etc) they are in the region of R2K upwards and BANG in the price range of the flagship Explora...WTF?!? Isn't that ancient technology?Or simply a case of supply and demand...well, I'm not willing to play.Welcomed news then from Multichoice.

And apparently the Explora will get a price drop for a couple months

Tired of new decoders coming out. Lets first make use of the LAN port and USB options on the decoder we currently have.

How much do you think an old SD PVR should cost?
