New DStv HD and SD channels unveiled

Sometimes wonder if all the people pining for SciFi actually ever watched it. Full of ancient shows from the 70's & 80's like Hulk & Kolchak, the night stalker, not to mention the crap movies. Occasionally they'd shoot up Voyager or Enterprise.
The only time it was worth watching was when they were winding down and they mainlined TNG.

I like the HD channels but I see nothing really new here apart from the Africa Magic stuff, which is not for me in the first place. So no new channels really - just a reshuffle and converting to HD. Would like to see the documentary channels all in HD and actual new channels with interesting content. Please no more of these celebrity gossip and snorefest cooking channels...

That was on MNet though. As it is they're struggling so much for content that they have South Africa's most boring personality (Jenny Morrison whatsherface) travelling through Morocco, abusing those poor people with her narcolepsy-induction techniques...

Then DSTV can negotiate with the content providers to reduce the number of repeats. The cooking channels seem to be on an endless loop of loops of loops that they repeatedly looped years ago already...

I read somewhere that Multichoice is still broadcasting "Who wants to be a millionare" shows from the 90's. Most channels are useless junk, including the defunct sci-fi channel. Not to talk about the incessant repeats and advertisements. Why must the good channels subsidize the poor channels? This is not how economics work. Multichoice should unbundle the channels as ordered by ICASA, so that we could pick what we want. I also don't enjoy their 5 Christian channels being pushed down our throats. Let me ditch those and the other useless channels. Been without multichoice for 6 years and I do not miss them to be honest.

There are 2 Christian channels and one Muslim channel. You aren't forced to watch any of these (undoubtedly cheap to provide) channels.
Multichoice does not choose what episodes of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire air, BBC Entertainment does. Wether or not they are that old is debatable, but DSTv has nothing to do with it.
As I have said before in these threads, DSTv is actually a hell of a lot cheaper than Sky and other European/Australian providers. The one thing I would advise them to do is offer the Sports and Movies packages as separate and above a base entertainment bundle, as this will allow people to have a bit more choice.

Did anyone comment that Intelsat 17 is at a different place in the sky than Intelsant 7 and 10?

With the successful launch of Intelsat–20 on Thursday night (2 August 2012), MultiChoice said it will now have more satellite capacity than it has on IS–7.
In a press statement announcing the success of the launch, Intelsat said that IS–20 is to replace IS–7 and IS–10, and will provide a large number of telecommunication, video, telephone and data transmission services in Europe, the Middle East, Russia, and Asia.
Intelsat–20 weighs over 6 tonnes, and according to its fact sheet, has 24 C-band transponders, 12 C/Ku cross-strap transponders, and 54 Ku-band transponders.
The Ariane 5 rocket carrying IS–20 also had the Hylas 2 satellite on board for Avanti Communications."

Ummm, they're on IS-20 which is ay 68.5E as well.
