New DStv HD and SD channels unveiled

Typical MyBB sensational headline writing. Are they on DSTV payroll?
No new channels!

So the restructuring and addition of new movie channels, and the new Africa Magic channels don't count?

umm ja, and what shows on those channels are not on M-Net?

So you reckon those channels that are only broadcast in the US should come to SA :wtf:

You kidding right? Go to thos shows websites and see what great shows we missing out on.

I'm glad the sport channels are at the end, tired of having to scroll through them to get to the channels after 300.

WTF is wrong with some of you? Many bitch that DSTV goes up and up without anything new. Here they are going to be using a massive amount of more bandwidth at epic cost to air these extra HD channels and you still moan?

I think it's awesome! I can't wait for every channel to be in Hd. As it is, I tend to avoid watching stuff on the SD channels as once you have tasted HD, it is very tough to go back to grainy SD.

The addition of more movie channels worry me as there will be more repeats, so one movie will most probably be broadcast at least 4 times in one day and there will be a lot more old content being scheduled.

Happy that all the movie channels will be in HD.

Couldn't agree more IRVING.
eg. movies will probably rotate every 4/6 hours after its shown on the previous channel.

Even with 13 new channels there will be nothing to watch 75% of the time :p

Yep, except for Saturday and Sunday, i.e. sports channels.

Almost every program that DSTV airs is available on the net in any case.

Why scroll? Just press the any of the arrow buttons on the remote to get a grid list of the channels.

He is not kidding. Those channels are network channels in the US. They will never be available to other networks. The programming on them is available to other networks, but a few weeks/months after premiering there.

Everyone bitches without actually knowing what they are talking about. When I lived in Ireland I would have had to pay close to R900 a month if I wanted Entertainment + Sports + Movies + HD - that is excluding extraview and various specialist channels we get for free here.

Ill be honest when I say this: DSTv has better shows than Sky, too. I watch a much more varied palette of TV since I moved back.

Just because you can illegally torrent shows doesnt mean the price must come down.

Whats with all the DSTV fanboys. Seriously. DSTV sucks. With all the constant propaganda and repeats, it is overpriced crap. The only thing they cater for are stupid sport loving people. But, that is where the money is because those people won't really see how much they are getting raped. That is the only thing that DSTV has is sport. Apart from that they have nothing.

I can't wait for Info View. They at least will have Syfy (hopefully).

Same with Foxtel in Australia... Costs over R900 a month.

And you earned how much, as the gap between what you earn and pay is wider than in SA.

Guys, before you knock DSTV... please get yourselves TopTV just for 1 month!

Then you'll be totally content paying R600+ for DSTV!

In real terms, everything costs the same value internationally unless it is locally made or there is price discrimination - which generally works in the poorer countries favour. We are getting the same content. On the issue of running a company locally: We have smaller running costs locally, meaning we actually benefit due to our lower GNP per capita. In the end it works out pretty fair.

If you want the absolute highest Sky package, you should expect to pay roughly twice the cost of DSTv - about R1100.

Another factor to consider is the ease of licensing of British content - they dont have to pay as much nor take as much time to acquire shows from the Isles. This is why we get less English content.
