New DSTV HD Decoder

from the specs (Processor / Ram) it seems like the 'baby' has the same hardware as the older one? can anyone confirm?

Whats the model number of the 'daddy' version?

I wonder if the new HD PVR will really work with one lnb (of course loosing the recording option...)

Wasn't the problem on the other PVR that one lnb was required for vertical signal and one for horizontal? How is this going to be different with this decoder?

hmm, I'm skeptic if it is MULTICHOICE!
Currently on their PREMIUM... R600+ including PVR...
But not enough quality programs. Maybe I should watch more SOAPS and less movies.

Maybe someone can confirm tomorrow. I will try and find out as well, will take a drive to Hifi in Tokai/Cape Town tomorrow moring sometime. If it is the "Baby" one I will buy it and post some pics and info for everyone

And if it is the "big" one? Will you buy as well considering installation cost is not that much more?

Its the new "baby" HDPVR, I assume Hi-Fi Corp just didnt have a picture of the new one. And it wont be save R1000 seeing as R2k is the standard price

If it is the new baby pvr... Then what's the diff in specs between old and new?

I.e is the old one still worth the extra 1k or is it going to be discontinued?

New one is view 1, record 1
Old one is view 1, record 2
HDD capacity the same
Software does not have the same features

So no the old ones are not being discontinued

I disagree..... because that is false advertising, and multichoice agents don't even have stock of the baby HD-PVR yet - so how could HIFI-CORP get before anyone else in the country..... highly unlikely.

Well I am off to HIFI-CORP... will report back when I get back to the office with my PVR :)

Definately not! I first need to check that the new one works off a single lnb as well

Look what I just found under http://www.dstv.com/dstvsa/content/en/dstvsa/hd_faqs#2. The new 2 lnb is finally listed.

30. Why does the newest model (the HD PVR 2P) not have series recording and when will this feature be available?
The new HD PVR model (HD PVR 2P) has been been launched in time for the World Cup Soccer. In order to meet these timelines, two functions available on the original HD PVR were temporarily omitted. These are the ability to set series recordings and the ability to use the DStv ON DEMAND catchup service. As soon as these two features have been developed they will be automatically downloaded to your PVR’s without you having to do anything. We expect these features to become available before the end of 2010.

38. What installation is required for the HD PVRs?
The original HD PVR model has 4 tuners and requires a four wire installation, ie. the minimum requirement is a twin LNB. The HD PVR 2P has 2 tuners and requires a two wire installation, ie. the minimum requirement is a twin LNB. MultiChoice recommends that installation of the HD PVR is done by a DStv Accredited Installer. To find an accredited installer in your area, SMS your postal code to 33936 (SMS costs R1.50)

Just phoned technical enquiries and apparently the new HD PVR with two lnbs does not receive signal or boot up with a single lnb connection... Not sure how much they know though.

If that's the case there's hardly any point buying - for me at least.

OK - just got back from HIFI CORP and now to eat my words.....

It is indeed the new Baby PVR for R1999-99.... I was slightly peeved that the photo in the advert was misleading... but I decided to buy it anyways as I already have an SD-PVR and it is only my wife and myself at home so no need to record more than 2 programs at once over the 2 decoders.....

It is VERY small - I haven't opened the box yet to inspect the decoder, but the whole box fitted into my desk drawer! I like this - will fit nicely where my VHS machine currently stands.

I am having it installed tomorrow - I hope it runs smoother than the big daddy PVR..... I can live without the DOD and the series recording for now as my SD-PVR has DOD and I have all my series TBR'ed on the SD-PVR......

It does boot up & work with 1 LNB, only loss is no recording ability

How sure are you? I don't want to buy it, take out a DSTV subscribtion and then it does not work, or HD does not work! I can't afford a dual lnb installtion at the moment, am just a student :-)

Hi guys

I have the box i bought this morning from hi-fi corp in Strubens Valley and IT IS NOT THE BABY HD PVR. It is the full UEC silver HD-PVR (2 record, 1 view). It seems hi-fi corp is confused about selling the new baby one and the old daddy one at the same price...

I paid R1999 for the full one, and im glad its not the baby one as i want DSTV on Demand!
