New DSTV HD Decoder

I used at 1x4 splitter for about 3months after buying the PACE HD PVR, the only improvement was that I had Signal on Turner 4 which was for my EPG since Tuner 4 carries all the Interactive services, with the BABY HD PVR I had that they combine tuner 4 to Tuner 1, As well as I could record Two Channel as well only if they are on the same Polarization.

ok, thanks madlala....this will work for me....I can go without the recording for now....got two 1110 decoders ATM, and 'recording' is foreign to me, like mxit and facebook...:D

I'm in no mood to get ANOTHER installer...R400 call out, R400 'installation'...

@kayoss : If they will give you the silver UEC for R1999 get that - else go for the baby.

Sorry Jola, but apart from recording 1 channel instaed of 2, what are the differences?

The installation cost is higher and aren't the old decoders rather buggy?

Thanks.

The UEC is new, don't think that it is as buggy as the older Pace. And you can record 2 channels as you mentioned.

The UEC can also record series and has video on demand (not sure how that works) - Baby will only get this later.

My view was that if I could get the UEC for R1999 then I would take it, but they would only sell it at R2999.

So I took the Baby Pace for R1999.

You are right, the installation is cheaper - I have a dual LNB, so I have zero cost, and for the UEC I would have had to buy a switch. I'm happy with record 1.

I also like the fact that the Baby has an external power brick, it means that the unit will run cooler.

And for you campers out there, the Baby runs on 12 volts :-)

Madlala's making a moerse lotta sense okes...

The tuner is purely the ability to accept a certain polarisation on this new 'baby' PVR..
...rather than the actual 'feature'

i think multichoice covers all bases by saying "minimum dual lnb"

My thoughts... I wish there was someone who could just hook the new baby up to a single lnb already and see what happens :-). then to single using splitter. We should know for sure tonight!

I think I'm gonna wait for the baby UEC. Anyone know if thats coming out before the world cup?

ok, looks like I'm going to get to this thread tomorrow and it will be on page 30....

ok, let me rip so new rumour here, right now....

no, it will not make it before the world cup because of the transnet strike....all the uec decoders are in a container in Durban.......:D

Reading the review of the new baby Pace HD - it seems a HELL of a lot more stable than any HD decoder before it! I am starting to get excited for my installation tomorrow!!! :)

lol maybe i should take the daddy UEC i got for R1999 back to hifi crap and demand a baby one:D

Dear Multichoice,

F@#k you and your billing system!

The end.

I too like some of the others here went to Hi-fi this morning to get my UEC decoder! Three stores later (and three fights later - one of which got heated and I threw the pamphlet at thge useless salesman who insisted that I am indeed saving R1000), I realised that I should just settle for the "baby" PVR.

I had an old SD decoder, so I had to get a full-on installation done with some weird looking new LNB (there's like 3 outputs on it but only runs a single cord for my setup!?!?). So I can't really answer if you it'll work on a single LNB - for those who queried.

For a moment I was happy, despite the frustrating morning I'd had, only to hear the dumb shytes can't accept new subscriptions! AAAARRRrrrgggg!

Anyway, to add some value to this post, the baby PVR does look quite cool, very compact (which is a big plus) and the software seems to be responsive (well I actually just have a blank screen at the moment) but yeah.

End of rant
