New Electrical plugs for SA

I was wondering what the max amp rating would be on a plug based on current cellphone chargers, hairdryers etc. Guess the Brazilians needed the thicker pin variety for 13/15amp applications.

Another point which wasn't raised is the mechanical "stiction" of such plugs, I foresee heavy duty cable appliances like vacum cleaners pulling free very easily. I'm guessing the dual current 3 pin with a couple of the new sockets as illustrated will become the new standard for wall sockets.

What European standard? I know of at least three different plugs used in Europe.

Yeah and our system has a breaker at the plug, none of the other systems have that... not that one uses them often haha...
 
As child one day i could not remove a plug from a wall, i used scissors, The scissors got bitten but not me :D

Haha we used to switch of the plug, then put the lead from a clutch pencil over the live and neutral prongs and pus the plug in... when someone then switches it on it makes quite a satesfying boom...
 
FFS how are you going to wire that small plug? i have never even seen a two plug that is self-wire-able!

I was also wondering how you would wire it... also wondering about something like a welding machine how would that handle these small plugs...

I have no issue if they are safer, AS LONG AS they make proper contact at all times. Most 2-prong plugs have to be fiddled with which generally means people cut them off within 5 minutes.

The recessed sockets tend to fit really well.

I find the recessed sockets, which these appear to be, hold the plugs very firmly.

But then again a lot of mybb articles are plagiarised in some way.

IOL does the same. I sometimes read an article on an overseas site and a few hours later, a similar article appears on IOL with over 90% the same content.

My apologies then, I linked the article and quoted it as I have seen been done here before. I suppose they feel they might be loosing out on the advertising revenue stream that the link may have provided....quoting would have bypassed that perhaps.
 
I've fallen in love with the EU schuko plug:

It looks good, it's fits securely, it's safe, it doesn't matter which 'direction' you put it in and it (obviously) works :p
 
I wonder how long the old plugs are going to be around for though? I can't see people rushing out to replace all the plug sockets in their houses. I do like the design though as long as it's the same as the current two prong version that most transformers use.
 
Well, this is great news for South Africans traveling to Brazil :erm:
