As far as I understand, those new plugs are not compatible with european two-prong plugs (your cellphone chargers).

I doubt any of us have EU 2 pin plugs on our cell phone chargers. I have one on my vacume cleaner but most cellphone chargers use the normal 2 pin plugs.

If that's true then that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
Have I mentioned the wonders of the EU shuko plug yet? It's actually compatible with those two-pronged plugs as well.
Who came up with this grand idea anyway? Why didn't the public ever get to decide or take part in the decision-making process?
Who's frikkin' idea was this?
Twenty years to convert to a socket type we'll all hate and then another twenty to move over to one that's actually useful.

You have the round Schucko plug (two pin) and then you have the Europlug which is the flat two pin like below (I don't think that plug will fit into the new SA plug points though)
European Schucko plug:
You will find that stronger appliances use the round Schucko plug and smaller appliances use the flat two-pin.
Chosing standard which is adopted elsewhere for different voltages is not wise.
Second thought, when adopting something new, there should be mandatory requirements for quality of the connection. There is no follow-up standard to cover this issue. Result of adopting sockets for Europlugs without quality control is that most of sockets sold in SA do not have springs giving secure contact. For me it is completely unacceptable. If the same is going to happen with new plugs, I prefer current bulky 3-pin plugs.

Just got me thinking: Most data centres use power-strips with either SA 3-prong kettle plugs or power strips with female/male kettle plug connectors. Will eventually require some heavy recabling if that standard goes ahead.

MagicDude4Eva already beat me to it (I linked to the schuko plugs--which are EU standard and compatible with the 'flat' Europlug--IEC C earlier)--it's what gets used here in Sweden.
As for the French power socket you linked to in the image, that's kind of reserved primarily for the French
Also why the Swiss plug would be pointless--the only country using it is... Switzerland.

What I meant. Most people will have to call in electricians, if only for insurance purposes. So why is this being done?
