New Electrical plugs for SA

I see a few plugs at the hardware shop ever so often, but usually they don't have.

I've recently re-done wiring in my "wiring closet", and was looking for power strips with these sockets so that I could save some space. I could find none.

Wall sockets were also hard to find, and the ones that did have it, all seemed to be the Brazilian Type-N plug (without shutters) and not our adopted IEC 60906-1 standard (with shutters). The 20A Type-N has slightly thicker pins, so our plugs may not make as good a contact in those sockets. (Or they may be the 10A Type-N version, in which our plugs won't fit!)

I'm guessing this will only really become "standard" once manufacturers start fitting them to appliances. And that won't happen until other countries adopt the standard as well. So not holding my breath!

Edit: I see Crabtree have them listed on their site now.

I'd love to use these plugs, do to the space saving, and potential for 4 switched plugs are plate. However, I have yet to see a single appliance sold with this plug on it.
 
The Euro Style plugs fit the sockets, so most small appliances are OK.

I have several sockets with the new standard.
 
I've started to replace all my wall sockets with the new plugs and buy plugs whenever I seem them in the stores. Actually working out great as my house is 35 years old and time to replace switches and sockets.

The europins fit, the flat hexagonal ones with flexible pins. Shucko, and styles similar to it, round ones with thicker pins, won't fit.
 
I tried to look for these damn things last week for rewiring my network setup. There's seemingly no stock anywhere in Jeffreys Bay. >_<

You can install a breaker if you want to but it's not required for those types of plugs according to electricians and the electrical shop I spoke to about 2 or 3 years ago.

You can "build/customise" your own plugs which will also allow you to change your plugs whenever you feel. These are the plugs I selected for my kitchen..

I am, after renovating all my plugs are 1 old 3 point ones and 3 new standard 3 point plugs. Plugs at my tv is 6 of the new ones in one socket. Really saves some space there. Bought all the plugs and sockets from live copper.

I did, when I was about 8. And it was a now-obsolete 3-pin 5 amp socket. Bright boy just took a short piece of wire...
