New Gaming/ Media Rig, Advice

Hi, getting a new PC so need a bit of advice on where to save money and what I should not get...

Here are the specs so far comes to about R9000 but want to try and get it to about R8000:


1 x Manhattan PCI Card 3+1Internal Firewire 2+1,USB2.0

1 x Machine Building Service
1 x Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L IG41 Motherboard w/A8 + G + LK + SATA2
1 x MSI R4870-T2D1G-OC Radeon HD4870 16xPCIE 256-bit 1GB GDDR5 w/HDTV + 2DVI
1 x Corsair DDR2-800 4GB (2x2GB) XMS2 Twin2X Memory Module Kit
1 x Seagate 500GB Barracuda 7200.12 SATA300 16MB 7200RPM Hard Drive
1 x Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93GHz 3MB 1066Mhz FSB LGA775 Processor
1 x Gigabyte Odin 470 GE-P470A-C2 Power Supply - 470W

R9000 for this thing, I can say you were ripped off big time. Good that you asked.

Maybe you can be more specific about the games you intend to play and media, HD movie or music?? I am sure some of our dealers here can offer you better specs at lower prices.
 
Is there any reason you want a separate sound card?

Also that gigabyte psu is crap. It's only a 390watt. 470 is the peak rating which it can only do for 1min. Rather get the cooler master 500watt.

Also ditch the samsung drive. It'll only give you problems. Anything else is better.

Everything else is good. Just try looking at take2.co.za and prophecy.co.za for decent pricing.

Ya, took the Sound card out but still at about R8900...
 
need to try get the other prices down before I can think of the GTX260...

this one is pre-gen but is still a awesome card and graphic cards are like cars... its no investment... you wont notice any lag or diff between the 2.. so save money and buy the cheaper on... i personally think that buy more of this "no name brands" cause they last... i had a gigabyte radeon x700pro and a xfx 7900gt and both went ou the door... my next card will be this one..

216 stream processor goodness;)

BTW, other people can't see your cart.

due to the fact that he wants to save money... and saving it on a graphics card is better then on a cpu.. graphic cards prices drop constantly due to new ones coming in and as soon as you put it in your pc the 2nd price goes down...

But 2300 for a 9800GTX and 2600 for a GTX260, the 260 is a way better deal. So good in fact that I'm going to get 2 and SLi them puppies. Checked a few benchies out and 2xGTX260 whips a GTX295's a-hole;) Maybe I might even start playing games on me peesee.

That's all I is saying.
