New Iburst Acc Type

Hi guys

All noted and communicated.

When it comes to the 2mbps service please hold for the official announcements.

Thanks for the feedback.

YES, you'll need a new modem. Cheaper b/w pricing is the only thing iBurst can offer of value. Faster speed is not necessary as I already get full 1 Mb/sec at even busy times of the day. An increase in caps by say, 50% would be great eg 10GB becomes 15GB, 5GB becomes 7.5GB etc.

Shaun, I tend to agree with PeterCH here.

It appears as if iBurst has not listened here mate. I cannot recall hearing people complain too much about the speed offering (although it is much slower than other offerings) in this thread. We principally asked for more bandwidth for the same price and/or higher capped speeds. In addition I suggested that iBurst tackles the issue of Microsoft Updates sucking bandwidth with after-hours access to locally-hosted iBurst WSUS servers, that does not come off your cap.

Instead, we hear about faster speeds (which I for one rates lower down the list of things iBurst needs to fix) and spending more cash on new modems for this faster access.

What else do we need to do to get iBurst to LISTEN to us? Or did the results of this survey (which we have not seen the results of?) show that iBursters need more speed, are willing to shell out a couple of grand for new modems and does not care too much for cheaper bandwidth? If the survey showed this I would be very surprised, but would gladly admit that I am wrong in this post and would cease my subscription with iBurst soon.

Best regards,

Rudi

Remember that gigher caps are also being investigated.

All the top listed ideas I did post so that you would not duplicate ideas already through to the product team.

Jannie gave a small glimpse. There are more to come.

Patience m8 all things come to those who wait :)

I think maybe we are all in the same boat when it comes to things like this we want and we want it now. Rome was not built in a day, I'm holding a thumb and giving the benefit of the doubt to IBurst that they will be providing better service's and offerings to it's clients.

Important thread

This is an important thread, we shouldn't let it die. So bumpity bump

Bump.

Last weekend i thought i play around on the nntp servers abit since i havent done it in ages. I tried uunet as sugested in previous threads but what a crappy list of groups it hosts.

So if at all possible mebbe a deal with the devil (telkom) for access to the saix news servers cause IS servers is absolute crap.

Mebbe giganews since iburst is international cap anyway.

Speed is an important issue.
ADSL is running at 4Mb/s with more rumored to be in the offing.

iBurst needs to keep upgrading their technology to keep pace with the rest of the offerings in the market.
It just makes business sense.

I agree fully with the point on current hardware (possible trade ins?) - That would be a big deciding factor for me.

Now I'm sure word around the iburst office hasn't ever been too pleasant when it's gone towards me (least that's what Cap'n Knott Craig said to me when he was still in charge) but I'm going to put through a logical, promising but most likely ignored idea anyhow in hopes that new management actually think about it.

Simply uncap/unthrottle iburst to iburst bandwidth. Back when I joined iburst we ran the dc++ hub and (while accidental) this was the case at the time until a lovely shaping war occured and eventually killed the service.

Believe me though that the hub garnered ALOT of popularity and I know a great deal of people (personally I might add) that signed up to iburst PURELY for the hub, just look at the insane view count on my dcc guide post.....and that post only came into being 2 years after the hub did!

IF Tower congestion is somehow an issue (as bandwidth cost couldn't possibly be with it being on your internal network) then follow an earlier suggestion of unthrottling it from say 5pm-5am/7-7 etc...

Again I'm pretty sure this will fly over the heads in charge but for even the smallest glimmer of hope it's worth putting out there again.

Remember when Telkom offered call more time (When Dial-Up was around) between 7pm Friday night to 7am Monday morning.

iburst should come up with iBurst "more" time/surf, say between 7pm to 7am...:D

Or is that impossible?...:o

Callmore included 7pm to 7am weekdays, as well.

Another option I was considering is perhaps they could open the tap after 2200 and before 0600, you know when the aren't busy. I dunno I still prefer another 64k+ for some extra cash.

Also, what about making access to iGame servers free for iBurst users ie. not deducting it from our bandwidth? If that is too much to ask, then at least make it free after 20h00, when most of us play. And unshape it please.

Was just thinking maybe you could have a one day bolt on uncapped option. For example and extra 200 pm and you can pick one day a week that the service runs uncapped, we could use that day to schedule updates etc. If you allocate a limited amount of slots on each day of the week you can make sure that the network isn't overloaded by too many people flooding the network. Or perhaps an uncapped option for the time period of the day that the network is dead, eg 22:00 to 05:00. Just another idea.

Oops, I see that this topic/idea has been covered before...:o

My bad, please carry on...:D

To answer the question about the 2MB offering; it will still use the same modem, it's just dual authentication.
All this means is that your modem will effectively connect twice...

Umm, I don't think so. The 2 Mbps modem looks (and works) quite a bit different to the current 1Mbps units. It has been confirmed before that the current 1Mbps modems would NOT be fucntioning in the 2Mbps environment.

Whether iBurst will maintain "compatibility" on its network ie. still allow older 1Mbps modems to connect at 1Mbps remains to be seen.

Am I right Shaun?

I think this is incorrect. If you do a google search for IBurst and 2MB you get shown a new modem witch has 2 antenae on the side. We will have to wait to confirm. I am sure that people with older modems will still connect at 1MB's and need to get the newer modem's / hardware to take advantage of the 2mb's capability. Iburst would not just cut off 1mb modems if they did so Im sure there would be one #ell of a fight.

Seacom is live lets watch and see what Iburst is going to do by the sounds of things there is stuff in the pipeline but time will only tell. Sometimes I wish time could fly so we can get there sooner rather than later.

Can anyone perhaps confirm or deny the above ???

iBurst can only follow the trend and DROP b/w prices - say double the B/W for the same price or drop the price. Other accounts are not necessary - if they drop the B/W then one can do more Windoze updates and so on.....faster speed with same CAP is also a waste. 1Mbps and a cap of 30GB int'l is better than 4Mbps with 3GB.
