Hi

I am getting so frustrated with these slow speeds over wifi. I am using file browser app to copy a file off my pc. The speed of the wifi connection maxes out at 900KB/s . Does this seem right to you?

I have a netgear dgn2200mv2 router (Telkom) edition.
I've disabled WMM and QoS.

Please help me diagnose this.

Thanks,
Paul

I have disabled WiFi sync totally on iTunes and my iPad, no matter what network you're on the speeds are terrible. Just sync via iTunes as normal.

Check what channel you are on (usually set to auto) as it scans and picks the least one with inteference? Try changing the channel to 6 and others.

Got the same router and that is definitely not right.

Keep us posted.

Earlier today I downloaded over 2 GB in under 15 minutes...

I would check on the wifi channel as suggested above.

I may be confusing bits and bytes - but is that almost 0.9MB/second?
So an MP3 would take 5 seconds to copy?

Hi there,

It copies at 900KB/s so yes 0.9MB/s... this is frustrating me like crazy because I can't get to the bottom of this. I'm not sure if it is the right speed or not?

0.9MB/s = 7.2Mb/s

My ADSL downloads faster than that!

also what speeds are you guys getting over WiFi?

Spent the last hour tweaking wifi setting to try and get optimal speed on my iPad. My iPad won't exceed 40Mbit/sec or about 5Mbytes/sec under optimal conditions (about a foot away from the router). Even though its a wireless n router which the iPad is capable of too. On laptops I get about double that speed.

However, this speed still seems to be just enough for me to stream 1080p video off my smb share to xbmc on the iPad (biggest file I tested was 12GB, had no stuttering with this file, however I feel it was pushing the limits at times).

I checked out some other threads where other people also experienced similar limits on the wifi. While it's not causing me any issues, it would have been nice for the iPad to make better use out of the available bandwidth.

If you having issues with speed with your wifi<->iPad, try and set the router to only one mode (I have set mine to n-mode only). You should also turn off auto channel selection and choose a channel manually (I set mine to 12). You can also look at RTS/CTS settings if you are still struggling, this didn't help me though and actually made performance worse, but may work for you - check out these links:
