The dial selects gears for normal and sport auto modes, I presume... and then there will be a manual mode, with paddle shift (you can see them behind the steering wheel).

I would assume that the XE won't be trying to initially compete with the lower entry level sedans.. they would want to compete with the 325's and up I would assume, with a later addition going down to the 320 maybe...
