Actually had an eye on the R Sport diesel and got shocked by the price. Was going to write it off but then remembered the Germans do not spec a lot standard equipment. So I went to the Jag and Merc config sites and low and behold a C220d specd to the same level as an R Sport Diesel is R615k whereas the XE is R614k.

After that I didn't know whether to be impressed by Jaguar and its pricing considering the exchange rate or disgusted by Merc considering its made here in SA! Test driving the XE tomorrow hopefully

I'd rather be offered the option, than to have it forced on me at a higher price...

To be honest, its all standard kit you would want in a car of this class though. Navigation, electric seats with driver memory, automatic climate control etc, all standard on the XE but optional on the Merc.

Will do. Need to drive the C220 though, for a fair comparison. I have only driven a friend's more powerful C250d and the Jag is 20kw less

This class is hardly high-end though. These are mid-range sedans. To pay R600k+ for an entry level C-class, A4 or 3-series is ridiculous. Take a minute to think about that figure. They would obviously have to cut a few options in order to bring the price down and remain competitive...

But they are fully specd with what I need and frankly I cant afford a 5 series, E-class, XF new. And 2nd hand is not an option as I travel a lot and will clock up kilos and would rather it be a new car with no kilos on it
 
Considering that XE is gunning for 3-Series

R Sport 2.0 Diesel 132kW (Automatic) = R615k

F30 320d 2.0 Diesel 140kW = R587k with Automatic, M-Sport, Electric Seats, Business Navigation, Key-less System, Extended Telephony

Personally I think Jag should have included basics like Wheel lock nuts, Sports Steering Wheel, Heated Seats, Sunroof, Park Distance Control

These sedan prices make performance models like VW Golf 7R or GTi seem like a bargain.

The XE 3.0 V6 Supercharged Petrol 250kW costs R980k :whistle: Might as well get 350kW Merc C63 AMG for R1044k.
