Hi all,

I need to buy a new laptop for R6k or under.

Usage will be the usual web browsing, office, and some PhotoShop.

I've had a look around the web, and these are the best three deals I've seen so far:

1. Lenovo L520 (i5 2520m, 4gb, 500gb 7200rpm, Win 7, 3 years) for R4999 @ Kalahari

2. Packard Bell TE11HC (i5 2450, 8gb, 750gb, 3 years) for R5499 @ Makro (site lists 2 year warranty but the promo catalogue says 3 year on-site)

3. Lenovo (i5 3230m, 6gb, 500gb, Win 8, 1 year) R5999 @ Makro

The Packard Bell seems to be very good value but I don't know what their build quality is like?

What would you guys recommend, one of the above or is there a better deal to be had somewhere?

Thanks very much! :D

Those look like fine options. However, if you don't mind demo models from Incredible:
Lenovo Ideapad Y560
Never bought a demo model online from them. However, the specs of the laptop is a lot better than what you found, but then it is second-hand.

The only other option I could find is this: Lenovo IdeaPad G580

There are always loads of specials out there, those Makro deals look pretty sweet!

No store has that product in stock at IC though, so you'd probably have to place an order and pray, also it's the Ideapad Y560p model

Thanks guys.

In the Game leaflet that came out today they have the following:

Sony Vaio
Core i3-3210
4GB
500GB
15.5"
Win 8
3 year on-site warranty
for R5997

I looked it up and seems to only have one USB 3.0 port though, but with the longer warranty it's possibly better value than that Lenovo G580?

I prefer the Lenovo deal because the CPU is substantially better.

I ended up purchasing (well, my family member did, it was for them) the Lenovo G580 from Dion Wired for R6,000 (same price as Laptopdirect, less hassle with shipping etc.).

I am going to see how much an extended warranty from Lenovo is. Dion Wired wanted R650 for an extra 1 year warranty (but they handle the warranty, not Lenovo).

Thanks for all the advice & help, much appreciated!

Same as this? Game has it for R4500.

B960 cpu != Core i5 CPU as far as I know?

If they still have it on special the Acer V5 touch screen is a stunning machine

There is a new version of that already available in the USA that has a much better CPU (new AMD Jaguar CPU).
