New Mazda 2

Nope. Corsa 1.0T costs less, has more power
It actually doesn't have more power due to it's weight compared to the skyactiv philosophy in the 2
Power to weight ratio of: 69kW/ton while the Mazda is: 92kW/ton making it a whole second quicker to 100km/h

Less weight more Zoom Zoom better handling as well.

Less weight because less safety. More Zoom Zoom more fuel.
Agree with you on the first part they might have gone extreme to save weight.
But don't agree on the fuel part i'm sure they have the Corsa beat on that front, incredibly high compression ratios(more efficient combustion) combined with lower weight overall does not mean more fuel. Same power to make but less weight to propel.

It wasn't all doom an gloom on the safety front but assume the Corsa did better from your sentiment.

Drove from Tokai to Milnerton today and the computer reported 4.9l/100km for the trip. Pretty great stuff.

People laughed when Mazda said they'll get diesel like consumption from a petrol engine without a turbo with greater reliability and durability whilst retaining turbo like power output.

They said you cant have your cake and eat it.

How are you enjoying that cake?

Did my first long-ish drive with the car this holiday, was a great drive.

One tank of petrol from J-bay to Table View and still driving around the neighbourhood with the same fuel.

Local Mazda2 range expanded, new features added

Mazda Southern Africa has expanded its local Mazda2 range to seven derivatives, while adding new features to existing models in the process.

New to the local range is the Mazda2 Individual Plus 1,5L Auto model, which slots in below the flagship, Hazumi-badged diesel variant.

The new derivative – which is priced at R286 200 – features a shark-fin antenna, auto-folding side-mirrors, a head-up display, leather seats, side and curtain airbags, rear parking sensors and lane departure warning.

These features are also extended to the range-topping 1,5L DE Hazumi Auto derivative, which furthermore gains blind spot monitoring as standard. But this oil-burner hatch doesn’t come cheap, with the price rocketing some R51 900 to R331 400.

Two new exterior colours (“Eternal Blue Mica” and “Deep Crimson Mica”) have also been added to the range, while the Dynamic model (and above) gains LED front foglamps and cruise control. Paddle shifters have also been added to all automatic models.

The engine line-up remains unchanged, with the 82 kW/145 N.m 1,5-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit doing duty in six of the seven derivatives, and the 77 kW/250 N.m 1,5-litre turbodiesel powering the top-of-the-range Hazumi.

Pricing:
Mazda2 1,5 Active: R215 100
Mazda2 1,5 Dynamic: R230 200
Mazda2 1,5 Dynamic auto: R243 200
Mazda2 1,5 Individual: R243 300
Mazda2 1,5 Individual auto: R257 200
Mazda2 1,5 Individual Plus auto: R286 200
Mazda2 1,5 DE Hazumi auto: R331 400

R330K for a damn 1.5l engine?? WTF. Put a turbo on there to justify the price. I'm shocked at car prices. Honestly.

Yes that 1.5 diesel is crazy excessive. Huge price difference with the similarly equipped 1.5 gasoline motor.

Dude, you're gonna have to trek around 5000km(thumbsuck) a month to save on fuel enough to justify getting the diesel :D :D
