New Neotel data service here soon

Now please Neotel, just add one last feature. Give us a month to month option where we can buy the device up front.

If you do that then I don't think ANYBODY can complain.

at least this one says "here soon".. and not just "here"

but may I humbly suggest you guys refrain from using that phrase at all.

The second tag line is better "Neotel will soon launch a multi-user data offering which includes an Ethernet/Wi-Fi router"

The phrase "here" or "here soon" implies widespread and imminent availability... and this is clearly not the case with Neotel.

This device sounds great! what has it left out? I can't think of anything.

Can't wait for coverage :( .. and to see what "aggressive data pricing" means!

This is what we have been waiting for as another cheap and stable backup to our ADSL. (Sorry Vodacom 3G still doesn't cut it... only for emergencies)
 
Come on guys shucks.. this is good news and you know it!

Testing takes time and these services take time to sort out.

When this is avalible to the public - i am going to tell Telkom to go F88K THEMSELVES (with a smile:))

I think they're trying to force people to use the phone device with uncapped to possibly generate more money whereas the data only uncapped is a set price and won't make anything extra per month. - i think that's called Greed!

I absolutely HATE a telephone. I hate it when a phone rings! I have no need for a phone. The only reason i have a phone is so that my family and my other half can get hold of me when needed, other than that people must not call me unless they're about to deliver expensive new hardware :D
So yea, My cellphone is more than enough. My Telkom line has block call enabled, I don't use it, its packed away.

Depending what the outcome is with Neotel and their new Data only options - Will decide from there - but don't see the point of Neotel not giving us Uncapped because i could also just take the stupid fugly phone device, run internet connection sharing on the media center and hide the handset behind the cabinet and forget about it and not give out my phone number - same thing i guess...

couldn't believe that when I read it....
I had assumed that becasue they have a R999 unlimited option (+ phone)... there should naturally be a R899 unlimited (no phone) option...

sounds like they trying to specifically exclude some potential customers. and I think I'm one of them :(

and i was willing to do the R999 option, knowing full well I would not be using the free airtime...but no coverage :(
 
Yup.. precisely.. coverage and decent pricing and i'm sold on this one...

Right - so let me get this straight. Neotel releases the USB device with uncapped access to get some friendly press but doesn't do the same when releasing the ethernet device? I mean I thought bandwidth wasn't a problem these days with access to SAT3 and all.

too bad.
 
While it may be somewhat disappointing that there may be no uncapped service (not officially confirmed), it is understandable as international bandwidth costs around R 20 per GB wholesale on SAT3 if my information is correct. That means that anyone downloading 30 to 40 GB will most likely mean a loss to Neotel. SEACOM may however change all of this when it becomes operational in June next year.

This is what many members asked for and Neotel has added this to their product offering – I think they should be commended for that!
 
Just phoned them. They cannot give me a schedule for coverage in any other areas. Just check the coverage map monthly. That doesnt sound to me like a serious provider if you havent even got a plan on the board to which areas is gonna get coverage next. Sounds like Sentech to me. Seacom will long be here before I get coverage in my area.
 
We were shows coverage maps today, and Neotel has indeed increased coverage significantly over the last few months (multiple times in cities like Pretoria). It will take time to cover all regions, but I think Neotel is aggressive when it comes to network expansion.
