New Neotel data service here soon

Hmmm, Neotel...

+1 on the coverage!

I'm in an area where not even Telkom can give me internet, lets just wait and see if Neotel will be able to.... :D

While it may be somewhat disappointing that there may be no uncapped service (not officially confirmed), it is understandable as international bandwidth costs around R 20 per GB wholesale on SAT3 if my information is correct. That means that anyone downloading 30 to 40 GB will most likely mean a loss to Neotel. SEACOM may however change all of this when it becomes operational in June next year.

This is what many members asked for and Neotel has added this to their product offering – I think they should be commended for that!

Handset or no handset R999 even tho you can't use the bundled minutes on the other (which is no loss really) - i don't see the difference regardless of the wholesale price on SAT3. But as you say, its unconfirmed... with only months away before the new cable lands - surely they should attract customers even tho its a loss at first!

a breadth of fresh air. good on them on the ethernet thingie. still wont get it if its on some 24 month handcuffs.:eek::eek:

According to Sharma the service will be available ‘very soon – definitely before the end of the year’.

which year?

did we ask for this?...
or did we why ask loudly why it wasn't included from the start?

I don't think we should be appeasing corporations like this. none of us have any influence as to when they increase coverage or when they get access to x,y or z cable...or why they only learnt about ethernet devices now.
all we want is an Internet experience roughly comparable to other countries. At this point even AUZ and NZ are better off.

Just phoned them. They cannot give me a schedule for coverage in any other areas. Just check the coverage map monthly. That doesnt sound to me like a serious provider if you havent even got a plan on the board to which areas is gonna get coverage next. Sounds like Sentech to me. Seacom will long be here before I get coverage in my area.

I also phoned them this morning and had the same story... Oh and they took my details for when I have coverage. At least they are trying...lol

Blame the government for delaying Neotel! They should have been here two years ago.

Now they are going to miss the boat when Seacom goes live... and will be a lame duck.

Good point. Neotel definitely fumbled on that one.

Why a bells and whistles device? At the rate Neotel values their handsets, this unit must "cost" R5000 to the consumer.

Why not a simple ethernet modem device one can plug into your existing firewall? It would be much more affordable.

This said: It is a major improvement in the product offering. At the current rate coverage expands in Pretoria, I might have Neotel coverage when my iBurst subscription expires.

Well this makes them interesting. Will be watching the coverage areas and pricing of the new service.

+1

Will be really interested in getting this device if I can hove both my phone and eth device on one account.

I also need a phone with the ethernet device. Wonder what that offer will look like.

Can one connect an IP Phone to this device?

I will be giving this product a miss...

No Uncapped is a major fail in my book...

Was thinking that the higher speed could be the cause for them excluding the uncapped option, but excluding the phone service should still at least partly make up for this.

I'll be needing a service like that in the next few months. Just hope they allow you to connect a standard phone to the thing.
