rpm, while I agree this is a commendable answer to requests from consumers, if the (as yet unconfirmed) speculation about the unavailability of uncapped packages on this device turns out true, I would very much like for one of the strategy gurus at Neotel to explain what the difference is between using an uncapped package NeoConnect USB modem with ICS and using the ethernet device to access uncapped is in their view...

Aside: Maybe I should just remain quiet on this issue, before someone realises that an uncapped NeoConnect offering has, in fact, moved SA out of our telecoms stone age (comfort zone), and withdraws the uncapped offering in its entirity again. :rolleyes:
 
Rev A devices allow for higher transfer speeds, including upload. IE, users will do more data with this device, and thats why uncapped users cant get it. They probably calculated what it would cost and decided against it. All business
 
Agreed with Stefk. However if there is no upcapped with this, Sorry they lost a customer and I was really looking forward to them.

I just want a decent line with flipping uncapped internet, I was willing to pay R999 to get that! Glad the new device is out though.
 
Nicely done Neotell now just keep it up. We are so used to waiting... whats a few more years.
 
Dumb question, what stops me buying the new device, cancelling the new contract after a month, taking out a Neoconnect unlimited package, and then using this device on that package?

As far as I know, each device is locked to the package you are on and therefore cancelling the package will cancel the devices access to the network (instantly turning it into a brick ;) ). Could be wrong though
 
I'd still get RevA even with a 10 or 15gig cap. I'll just be more selective of what I dl.

With me working anyway how many series can a person actually watch?

Especially if you are living with your partner.

Ja, I would assume this is the case. And you will pay a heavy premium for canceling the contract. It is not worth it. When you tried to re-enable the device they would refuse and tell you that device is only for those specific data contracts. This will probably be the case until the latter part of 2009.

Me... I'm waiting until after June 2009 or until Neotel drops the contracts.

KillerX, I was reasoning through that as well, but as far as I can tell the "real world" speeds for Rev A that are mentioned, are very similar to the current ones, with the exception of upstream data of course, which constitutes what, <5%, of general internet traffic usage (i.e. cases where no hosting is present)? So I don't think that stands up as a valid argument (IMHO of course ;))

So then a sample adjusting of the current NeoConnect Prime upcapped rates:
R999
-10% for lack of telephony services
= R899
+15% (5% data volume x 300% increase in possible upload speed) to cover potential extra upload data traffic, pro rata to actual traffic
= R1033 for uncapped data-only access on Rev A

Simple, really... :)

Even adding in possible extra device cost for the router device over the USB one will keep it around R1100.

Note : No equations were harmed during the making of this weak-@ss attempt at a justification. ;)
 
But neotel has coverage: their offices, the CEO's house and a postage stamp sized area in Sandton. They can make as many offerings as they like, the fact remains is that the lack of action and coverage will make everything they say so sound like "blah blah blah".
 
Ah fook, just checked their updated coverage, DAMN they are SO close i can smell the brain cells cooking due to the radio waves
 
Neotel actually need to get a little bit clever, and yes take somewhat of a leaf from Telkoms book...

Make it a 10gig international account and unlimited local... that would suit me down to the ground really.

and the 24-month contract? And the Ethernet device?
 
I'm avoiding the issue of a 24month contract for now...

But they do def need to get rid of that idea and very very soon... I need to be able to buy the device and subscribe on a month to month basis.

sounds like they trying to specifically exclude some potential customers. and I think I'm one of them :(

and i was willing to do the R999 option, knowing full well I would not be using the free airtime...but no coverage :(
