New Openweb ADSL concerns, comments

I have an OpenWeb account and so far have not had any problems, I don't understand what people are on about. I always get my full capacity when I need it. but then I pay premium bucks for a premium account.....

Do you get any daytime speeds? I have an expensive account which get throttled, not shaped during the day. Their after hours speed is not too bad. I cancelled my Openweb account this month because of this and their unscrupulous business practises. I was a big supporter of them for many years.

I think what they've been doing is buying high usage accounts in bulk from upstream ISP's and then reselling these multiple times to subscribers based on concurrent connections allowed. (I noticed this with an account from them a number of years ago)

I guess there's nothing wrong with this, unless you get cut off due to reaching the cap.

If OW agreed this with the upstream providers, I cannot see the wrong here. So what if a password is shared multiple times or if multiple connections are recorded on an account?

Of course it says nothing of irate clients when connections are cut off, unavailable, capped and so forth.

Hey Sakkie

OpenWeb does not share, or resell Uncapped accounts to more than one person.

It is against our contract agreements with IS.

If you have more than one concurrent connection on your Uncapped account, please email [email protected] immediately so that we can change your password and or investigate the matter further.

This is a formal statement, as requested.

its clearly stated by Keoma that its against their contract with IS to share accounts. yet the accusations never stopped. "Sakkie's" post date from 10 June 2007...

The fact that you cannot change your ADSL password yourself in their control panel should raise a big red flag. All ISP's worth their salt have this basic feature in their control panel.

i always found that odd

So can OW users not set their own passwords?

Why are all the passwords the same?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Because IS accounts/bandwidth/IPC/pizza dough allow for two concurrent connections. OpenWeb, Connection, Plugg, etc. and other IS accounts all do.

The passwords are all the same in order to share ADSL accounts (and because it's an easy password). They must be the same in order to exploit the two concurrent connections. As soon as one user changes 'their' password, the other has authentication issues (one of the top 3 user reported problems at OpenWeb).

See below, OpenWeb accounts are now advertised as only allowing one concurrent connection.

'Everyone' knows that IS accounts (OpenWeb, Incredible/Connection accounts, Plugg, etc.) allow two concurrent connections:

I highlighted all the other marketing bull**** used to con people.

These accounts are marketed in order to be shared/sold twice/profit doubled at the expense of those who simply don't know.

Even those with a modicum of intelligence have been duped by these connivers.

And then when I was still with them, I would get a mail from them asking me to close the one connection, if I had two connections open at home - one from my pc, the other from my router (nice for testing connections from multiple IPs).
As soon as I disconnected, the "other user" would pop back up in the session log.

Code:
[B]I see there are two concurrent connections to your account.

Please can you configure the account into your router so that each device does not dialup a connection. This account only supports 1 concurrent connection

Some more good info.

What would you like to know, for your clients' sakes?

Should we start with account sharing? Simply send them to www.userstats.adsl.saix.net.

I would say that at least 70 - 80% of people who have checked have seen the exact same nonsense as below.

And of course, you yourself know enough that ADSL accounts should never be assigned to more than one person.

Tldr version they selling one account to two ppl to utilise the two concurrent connections?

It goes deeper than that. Here we have one person on the Titan entry level product, and their colleague on a more 'premium' package (presumably Gold), with the same ADSL account login.

Not sure how to prove that they were on different packages (one guy cancelled his account now). They have completely different line speeds however, the one with the support ticket having a 4mbps line and the other a 2mbps line. The 4mbps guy also had Titan Uncapped or something similarly bottom-tier while the 2mbps had a slightly more premium account.

PostmanPot can confirm that the accounts had the same password as I forwarded the emails to him.
