New PC Build

The GPU is making my choice hard.

I will update you guys with my choice as soon as I have the insurance money....hehehehe

Thanks so far....

Ponder... your setup is great but I want the 7th generation as I keep my pc for 5 years plus.

Jonthan... your setup is spot on what I want and its assembled. Any cpu cooler?

Exactly how is that going to make a difference, if anything the i7 build will outlast the i5 kabylake build by a long shot. Performance wise there is not much between sky & kaby. To pick an i5 over an i7 makes no sense to me, at the end of the day it's your money & choice though.

I got http://www.wootware.co.za/raijintek-aidos-black-edition-92mm-pwm-fan-cpu-cooler.html for my i7-4790, haven't gone above 60C at max load (EDIT: I can't overclock though). It's also quite quiet, the case fan is louder than it. It's a huge cooler though.

Just be careful as it comes with the thermal compound already on it, no need to apply onto the CPU. Of course you're asking wootware to do it for you, so there shouldn't be any problems.

@Ponder the i5-7600K is better at gaming than the 6700 though? Depends on use-case.

Like Ponder says the i7 6700/7700k is the gaming king. The Kaby Lake series does overclock very well but because you won't be overclocking the i7 would be much better than an i5.

The i7 being a grand cheaper doesn't hurt either.

Spend that difference on a 16gig ram kit instead of 8gig.

I personally would pick SL i7/16gig over KL i5/8gig for basically the same price

Get the 6GB Zotac AMP, it's a really good GPU and a quality product. It also has 0rpm fan silent operation which the galax does not have and you get a 3yr warranty which is the same as higher 'perceived' brands for peace of mind.
